hi guys, this is my first post on here bar the intro thread.

Anyway, bear with me why i try to explain where i'm at and whats happening.

ok, newbie..

remember that.

using 2 piece 5mm suit, 18lb gives neutral at close to 5mtrs.
That feels about right and i've read that is ok.

trying to get between 5 and 6 deep relaxed breaths (per min) through the snorkel
while on surface. However, i find swell water distracting and often, water
comes in to spoil the relaxation. Any tips ?

I'm only diving to just under 10 mtrs and appreciate by many's standard on here, 10 mtrs is puddle jumping but for me, its where i'm at.

Booked on to a ** AIDA course with deeperblue late July at vobster.
16 meters is looking DEEP !
However, at just under 10 mtrs i'm not mega anxious or anything. How much tougher is 16 than 10, is it just in the head to get the extra or should i be practicing something specific.

It IS difficult to get much more than 12-14 meters in our waters close to shore so chances are, we'll struggle to get close to the required 16mtrs anyway but i do NOT want to spoil my chances of achievement by rushing in clueless.

I will say, at 5-6 mtrs i actually get a feeling of calm which seems to continue downwards. Why is this ? I'm assuming its because i'm now negatively bouyant and bodily extertion is now minimal ?

My actual depth is being measured off an old omer analogue pressure gauge so i have no clue as to HOW accurate it is but, i'm assuming, fairly close to within a few feet.

I'm considering a Suunto D4 as we explore deeper etc. Good choice ?
The only time i really look is on the bottom anyway but it'd be nice to record our expected improvement on, or after the course.

Ok, last question honest..., for now.

Depth line ?

At 5 meters or so, visibility means i can NOT see my brother, nor he see me. We dive between 2 dropped dive floats but we have no visible reference line. How would you build a dive line to operate in tidal conditions where both a leash could be used, it stayed taught throughout the tide cycle and, it had enough stability to be used in pull events like 'free immersion'..

cheers..
