Hi
Im a simple Swedish dude checking out this forum in hope to find some updated knowledge on monofins for freediving...

I have been doing divingsports for about 28 years now... but stopped competing 16 years ago. To stop competing and ending my team involvations has been the best thing i ever done.

As a young man i was mainly finswimming and freediving. Besides that i also played a lot of UV-rugby. I was in love with the more hardcore parts of divesports. Enduring hardship in water was my calling.

As a 36 yearold i still spend at least 6 hours in pools every week. Mainly doing longdistance swimming, ending all sessions with DNF. In the water i feel inner peace.
Resent years i have been missing finswimming with my monofins... and the only fin i have left is a really hard sprintfin. I gave my others away to people who neded them more at the time.

So why am i here: To chek out whats new on monofins. Is there maybe a medium stiff fin out there, with my name on it...? I sure hope so. And i want to meet the people making it.

What's new?

Starfins make great "hyperfins" and also check out the new hydrofoil from Smith Aerospace called the Dol-Fin

Welcome back!

Thanx!
By what's new, i meant like on the starfins and bogdans... the classical type of monofins. Are there other oldschool finswimmers here, whom has crossed over to the newer angeled and supposedly more comfortable footpockets? What was their experiense? Are the angles overrated when you are used to straight pockets? I'm not racing any moore. Just want to enjoy some recreational finswiming and freediving. The technique is still there. But not the same strength required for sprinting with stiff fins.

If i would peel a few fiberglaslayers of my old sprintfin, the footpockets will be way to tight for a softer fin.

I have seen the hydrofoil-type of fin before and i dare not buy one. I greatly respect their work on the models... almost all of my watertime is spent in pools. If i want to do distance swimming i will be turning by the suface. The classic way from freestyleswimingturns and slam the fin against the pooltiles. From my predjudist point of view either the tiles or fins will break. It would be cool to be proven wrong though.

The large footpocket angle helps immensely with long glides in DYN, as well as with getting power on the upkick

Hello and welcome on DB and to Monofin :) ... Hope you'll find what your looking for...

All best
