A guy came by my jet ski rental the other day trying to sell us one of these.

I heard from somewhere that these go for under 5K.
How much did he want for one?
Don´t see really a rental chance for this though.
Too dangerous and difficult. :blackeye

There are quite a few rentals that do this in the keys and around the US. Its no dangerous then shark diving or jet ski rentals. But with this you will always have a staff with remote controls.

While the may cost that much to build im sure they dont sell them for that much. You have to have amodified jet ski hull with quite a bit of fabrication done to it to keep this thing powered. I dont know the price and have seen some from 250k-about 55k....Ill have to double check on the number they gave.

What is the biggest part about them is the insurance, finding a company to insure you is very very hard. You usually need at least 2-4 machines and the requirements to add more to the policy within a certain time period. I have a jet ski rental in the Keys and our insurance is through the roof. But we have a unique one of kind policy that no one else has....or no one else wanted to pay for. The seller wasnt prepared for the questions we gave him and in the end left after we realized it took a policy that almost cost more then the machines themselves. My partner sold insurance for years, and while it was in the medical industry, she knew the code words and the lingo. He even admited that no one had asked him about that, even people who planned on opening a jet pack rental. Boy were they in for a rude awakening. There is one located just off the Casa Marina here in Key West. I see them often.

I talked to a friend of mine in Finland who has a Jetski rental place and he is getting one for next summer. He said the price was 5000€ for jetpack and 1000€ for the remote. He will hook the thing up to a sea doo xp.
Plan is to just rent it out on customers own responsebility, and have some fun for himself.

Let me start off by saying that is the stupidest idea ever. Maybe he can get away with crap like that where he is from, but it DEF wouldn't fly down here. Save him a lot of heartache and squash that awful idea. Regardless of what i say, its pretty safe to say your friend probably wont do it anyways. Its fun to talk about buying jet packs, but until you actually own them, they are 100% legal and in your name, its just a dream... and probably a stupid one at that. Id be willing to bet its not as simple as "hooking the thing" up to some piece of shit 2 stroke Sea Do XP and VIOALA your hovering like iron man

Hypothetically speaking, if this terrible culmination of ideas comes to light, when someone gets killed or paralyzed and there is no insurance to cover the 350k in medical bills or physical damage to private/public property. Your buddy will most likely face jail time and a ton of fines, which is exactly what he'd deserve. My policy covers up to ONE MILLION DOLLARS and its not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Regardless of whatever moronic statement like "rent at your own risk" that wont hold bearing in court and his ass will be grass. Not in 1000000 years. If owning a rental were as easy as that, everyone would be doing it. There are laws, regulations, rules, and business standards almost anywhere you go.

Please understand, Im not mad at you, so please dont take my sarcastic attitude or my smart ass response as a personal attack on you, or as me being some 'keyboard warrior' by ANY means. I would say this to anyones face without hesitation. I pay thousands and thousands of dollars just to be able to insure one jet ski every quarter, and i have a fleet of them. Hearing about someone who isnt remotely serious about getting into a rental business kinda irritates me. It would with anyone that has put the blood sweat and tears into something like this. That being said, its a free world. Good luck and dive safe
