I don't think I have seen anything posted in the forums yet so here goes-

I was doing a search on shark repellents and came across this site:

http://sharkdefense.com/index.html

I would hope that when it comes out it is cheaper than the shark shield and maybe more effective. From the looks of it, these folks are not messing around with the research end of things. I just wish they would get this stuff out there.
Yes maybe I have a better chance of being struck by lightning but I am still really afraid of these animals. I would also like to add that when there is an electrical storm going on, I don't stand on high ground. However, when I spend hours in the ocean I'm sure my chances go up by quite a lot that I might be attacked. Better safe than lunch.

There are other stories about the guy who started that. I havn't seen that site but there are other sites that speak of it. Here's one for instance. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0729_040729_sharkrepellent.html

Here is some of that story, tiny bit really.

Eric Stroud is a chemist and cofounder of the New Jersey based Oak Ridge Shark Lab. He began looking for an effective repellent during 2001, when some well-publicized incidents caused a media feeding frenzy known as the Summer of the Shark (in fact, that season recorded below-average statistics of shark-human encounters).

"As a chemist I was wondering what was being done as far as a repellent," Stroud recalled. "I began looking through a lot of past research and ended up in the area of semiochemicals. That seemed to be promising."

(not part of the story)I'm not too keen about sharks either. In fact my cousin just disappeared off the Oregon coast, in Lincoln City(last year). We don't REALLy know what happened, but a shark attack is a possiblity. He had friends with him, but they were on shore. I guess you should have an swimming buddy as well as a diving buddy.

Derek, I'm sure you know about that sad story. Manu say he drowned but nobody knows for sure.

If anyone knows when this shark repellent is coming out, let us know.

Regards,
Chris

All the shark repellent is, is just Cher's perfume she came out with in the early 90's...but drastically dilluted.
