I have been messing with slingbows for a while now....basically a tricked out slingshot designed to launch arrows.....They are small, compact, and POWERFUL when made right. I find myself looking at one of mine and wondering....Why not take it for a swim. Small as or smaller than the smallest farter or band gun, insanely easy to make, and MUCH cheaper than even the most basic speargun.

The only real drawback I see is having to use both hands.

Comments??

Hawaiian sling, my favorite weapon. In the right circumstances, you can shoot circles around the poor guy who is stuck with a gun.

I'm curious what your sling bows look like. Any pics?

Imagine a high end slingshot with short and powerful bands designed to launch arrows......it should take minimal modifications to my basic design to go from arrows to a fish spear.

Lots of videos on YouTube can give you the basic idea of the general design.....I have to decide on a tethered or free shaft as well.

...I have to decide on a tethered or free shaft as well.

That would depend on the size of fish you're shooting and the depth of water. If it's reef fish in shallow water then free is fine. If you incidentally shoot something big just make sure you see where it holes up. hunting consistently larger fish or in deeper water... tethered is the way to go.

Overall... I don't see the point of opting for a slingbow over an Hawaiian sling. There is no way it would be more or even equally effective.

This is just a versatility issue with me. If I can for sure develop a sling bow that can reliably take small, medium, and large animals as well as fish it will work well with my paint can survival kit. Sounds like some testing is a good idea.

Water is 800 times denser than air. It's pretty hard to find hunting equipment that works for both.

By all means give it a go, but there is a reason that spearfishing equipment has evolved the way it has.

I've seen videos of people using slingbows under water And I'll say they shoot further than most hawiian slings even when tethered.
