Hi,

i'm a novice at spearing and managed to jam the trigger mechanism on my commanche just as i managed to see a couple of decent sized fish today. :head
i'm not able to free it though can anyone give me some advice on how to free it please?

thanks,
jules

I'd start by trying to extract the spear. Obviously unload the gun bands then grab the end of the spear behind the barb/flopper preferably with a bench mounted vice. Don't use the flopper as a pulling point or you'll damage the hinge pin. Mole grips might do it if you have no vice but try to clamp the spear to something heavy. Hold the gun handle, pull the trigger and give a mighty heave. It's unlikely you'll do any more damage but you should be able to pull out the spear.

The most obvious fault is the spear has gone too far back into the trigger mech or the shooting line is jamming the spear. Both cases cause a thicker than intended spear or spear/line combo to jam the space between the top of the release sear and the bottom of the top plate of the trigger.

If the spear wont come out you will just need to remove the screws/bolts in the handle and split it in two, but it's easier without the spear in place. You will need to do this anyway to check for damage.

To be honest this would be an easy fix for a knowledgable speargun fixer/uppper but while these triggers are simple but can be sooo... dangerous. You need to make sure you or someone with you can check it's safe.

Good luck. Ask more questions and post pic's if you want. Alternitively pay my airfare/hotel and I'll come fix it :).

Dave.

Take it to venture sports in Paignton and talk to a bloke called Anthony.

Tell him its jammed and that its his fault He will probably blame me for sending you there and then hit it with some thing hard.......job done :)

Failing that if we hook up tomorrow I'll have a look.

Ah, sweet idea re venture sports, saw this message after I pmed you so I will see what he says in the morning, ta v much

Now that sounds like a good idea. Anthony is becoming one useful friend to DB members.

If you remove the trigger/handle part from the main tube/barrel then the spear will most likely come out anyway - once you can change the angle of the spear to the trigger mech i think it should have enough movement to release (it did on my beauchat). In any case as omd suggested you'll have to take the mech apart anyway, and once you do that you'll see what you've got...

yeah, i guess it's time to take my spear apart and get to know exactly how it works - main issue i'm having in sorting this is fact that the safety catch is locked into place as well as the trigger being jammed. :crutch whole thing is totally locked up.

Thanks everyone, especially to scott, gun fixed thanks to anthony down at venture sports in paignton

Anthony= top bloke.
Never heard anyone say different.
Please try to support small dive shops like his, we need them.
I know the Internet is cheaper and more convenient but if shops like this go squat where will we get tank-fills or go for advice or even a friendly chat on a windy/wet afternoon?
