I am refinishing a 52" teak kitto gun and need some advice on removing the trigger mech. Three pins holding the mech came out easily, but the line release, how does that come off to remove the mech? there is one hole at the top of the gun that looks like a drift pin, but it does not go through to the bottom. Here are some pics, I wanted to ask for advice before I started trying to tap out a pin.
Thanks

Are you sure it is not a allen screw ? Is it a Millenium 2/3 mech ? If you find that it is a allen screw I would take great care to use a quality proper sized allen wrench. Having to drill out a SS allen screw may not be fun. But I believe you could still remove the mech as long as the line release was held to the rear of the gun and not forward engaging the the sear housing.
Cheers, Don Paul

sorry, don, quoted the wrong post.
the neptonics trigger mechs started coming with a screw and a pin to install the line release. you can use either. ,(according to josh) kitto may have the same system, i'm not sure, it may be that they used a pin, (instead of threaded set screw) to install the line release. in that case, it cant really be removed. you SHOULD be able to slide the mech out, without removing the line release blade. just by folding it all the way one way or the other i seriously doubt kitto overlooked that. i, myself , have started using the pins to install the l-release blades. it seems to pivot better. there is ALWAYS a way to overcome any issue in a wood speargun. but you should just call kitto on the phone and ask him. he answers the phone ,(in my experience) just check time zones, so your not calling early/late. if it IS a pin and not an allen screw,(you can tell by, if the end of it that is showing looks like its hollow sorta, or is it a smooth pin? if its smooth, and there is no tiny hole under it to push the pivot pin back out, call kitto. BW: you can go to sears and they sell single allen keys individually. they look like tiny screwdrivers. they work better than the little L shaped ones, because you can hold down firmly on the butt of the driver while you unscrew that pin. YOU need to be careful!!!!when you unscrew it, be SURE not to strip it! damn sure! if you strip the inside of that allen set screw while trying to remove it, you WILL have serious problems. just use a good driver of the correct size, hold the gun firmly down ,(clamp if possible) be careful. i have done this about 30 times and so far , had one strip out on me. just one, but it was catastrophic BTW: could you post some more pics of that gun? i have never seen one of his unfinished guns. that trigger mech is HUGE! i'm jealous

Don Paul and JTKWest,
Thanks for your timely advice. It was a 7/32 allen key. Sometimes working on a project when you are tired and it's late is worse than trying it all liquored up. Everything is much clearer in the light of day (and with some good advice).
This gun is about five years old, and 51 inched overall, (not 52 as I posted before). Made from a blank of 5 x 5/16 . Currently set up with 5x 9/16 Mori's mean green rubbers shooting a 5/16 x 56 kitto shaft w/ his slip tips rigged w/ spectra. It has been a good tool and I have taken many fish with it both in New Hampshire and Thailand. There are a few things that needed attention as regarding finish detail work that were left undone which surprised me in a piece that came at this price. The line release has very sharp edges that I will chamfer, and the excellent SS muzzle piece which I really like, also has very sharp edges on the holes that the rubbers attach to,and abraids the bridal cords much too quickly. Also in need of some file work. Also will be routing out the track full length and doing a poured west system w/ 423 graphite powder track. As is there is only a 8.5 inch delrin insert at the end of the muzzle.Trigger mech is massive and has functioned flawlessly.
It has been a good utilitarian tool, and has served me well. It's not a work of art like the pieces Jordan Hamilton is turning out, but she shoots. I attached some pics of the dissembled gun during refinish project. Thanks again for your advice.
