Advice on suit (SALTFREE)

I was looking for a suit (my first) to use in British Waters and saw these on the apena.co.uk £160

I notice that it is not smooth, but i do want something that will last and be a good all rounder. I'm not great and not had much experience with the depth side of freediving but need to get cracking next year.....

What do you think?
 
Hey Chris,

Not exactly sure on that model, but 5mm is a minimum at Saltfree. Most of the divers use Elios suits, they're awesome, tailor made (more comfy and warm) and relatively cheap (roughly 200 euro).

You'll get more use out of a suit that's got a lining on the outside, it doesn't affect performance that much whether you have lining or smooth outer. Inner should be open cell (ie. no lined), it's far far warmer.

5mm Heiwa neoprene, open cell inner and lined outer would be my suggestion, you'll be able to dive summer comfortably and you'll still be able to jump in for a bit in the cooler periods.

Cheers Ben, I was looking into the taylor made Elios suits. Cost wasn't an issue it was more that i wanted something that will last and not rip. Not too fussed about performance at this stage either as i have very little experience of depth.

As always thanks for your advice, what you have explain makes perfect sense.

I agree - 5 mil open in/nylon out. My first suit is black shadow neoprene (new black coating in) and superstretch nylon out. Experience has show that you'll be as well off with plain old nylon out and plain open cell in - just be sure and use plenty of lube to put it on. Elios suits are excellent and very very sturdy. I've got, I'm sure, over 1,000 dives on my nylon out suit - many of them in water under 6c.

I have that same suit, Buechat Reversible, in 3mm (blue) and one in 5mm (black). I have to say it's great for the money. I've used the 3mm in Florida and the Bahamas, and for pool statics. The slick side is very slick indeed, other than the chest and back which are lycra.

All in all great "bang for the buck" and I will buy another if these ever explode.

should add: they fit me like they were tailor made, and no damage other than fading in about 50 not-so-careful uses (the 3mm one)

the one you link too looks a little different. The reversible is slick or lycra out depending on how you wear it.

speak to emma if you get the chance she will get you measured up and hook you up with a elios suit . i got the 5mm lined one via emma and the fit was brilliant (cheers emma) im a bit aprehensive about getting a smooth skin as i have seen quite a few ripped which will be a tad exspensive
