Hi, I'm staying in Manama for about three days on a long stopover in a couple of weeks, and wondered what there is to do there in terms of snorkelling/freediving? Because I have trouble equalising consistently, I'd prefer a mix of between 5 - 20 m. Also, I guess the water there would be warm enough to do without any kind of wetsuit? (I'd have to lug it around Nepal first so I don't want to take any more kit than necessary!)

There's apparently a PADI centre in Manama, but their website doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know if it's still operating?

Cheers, Bryan

Long time no see Bryan.
The only half-decent snorkelling or freediving is far enough offshore that you'll need a boat. There should still be a shop, but if there isn't, find the local dive club- they have boats and know where to go.

Thanks Erik - yes, it's been a while! Hope you're keeping OK.

I've found details of two shops, hopefully one of them will still exist. If not I'll hunt out the dive clubs. Any ideas about the water temperature? I've just seen that the air temperature high is only about 25 degrees, less than I expected, so I'm guessing the water won't be any warmer?

I wore a 5mm suit when I did some freediving there in December '01. You'll need tons of weight too as the water is very saline.
