So I want to start a new disscusion: Which one is the best computer now in 2012?

Best I mean it defintly needs: Surface time, Depth alarms (would be good more than 1), dive time and the alarms should sound!

What you all think about Aeris F10 v.2.?

Any computer can be used for depth diving and for pool discipline?

What is important for me that i can use it also on Mac, so compatible with
MAC OS X? rofl

Thanks for every single reply and let's start talk about it one more time.

You can compare all available freediving computers at APNEA.cz - Freediving Computers

When speaking about the latest 2012models, F10 v2 is not bad, though the alarm is not especially loud. Meridian offers probably the most features from all current computers, alarm is louder than at F10. Then there is the Suunto D4i, and plenty of older computers.

As for your Mac - Uwatec Meridian's software is made in Java, so it runs on practically any platform. However, the software is the weak point of the computer - it is really very rudimentary and rather frustrating. I hope they will bring a new version soon. Otherwise you have the MacDive software that supports many tens of diving computers, including F10 v2, and Suunto D4i,.

7996 dives/laps on my f10v2. Should have an f.11 with the new firmware in a month or so.
Liquivision Xen is magnificent - if you do not my no audible alarm.

F10 for me. Price, features and easy cheap battery change.

what is with suunto d4i? of course more expensive but with diagram and that stuff?

I'm perfectly fine with my F10v2 except that the alarms should be louder. Not sure, but I have in mind that the F11 is supposed to be louder due to the metal plate(?). If you you are very motivated to go deep, the F11 would be your choice ... -150m :blackeye

I have the Mik1 omer, the truth is always going well, but after just over a year, and takes twice repair. I say that for many there are some who have gone bad. I think when I can I'll take the suunto d4.

Don't have a release date on the F.11 yet. I will test the alarms and report back. Alarms on dive watches are generally not loud - Here I often dive with a 5 mil hood so I've basically given up hope of a loud alarm.

Hi all,

I have a couple of related questions:
- How can one differentiate an Aeris F10 v1 and v2?
- How can one tell which firmware version is an Aeris F10 (v1 or v2) running?

Cheers!

The only significant difference is the settable activation depth. The V1 is not settable, the v2 is.
To get to the firmware version go into free mode
>upper left button - 2 seconds

Then go to the Serial number/version screen
>lower left/upper right buttons - 6 seconds - you'll go past 'Set A' and 'Set B'

Thanks Fondueset for your reply.

I am considering buying a cheap second-hand v1 because I can't afford the v2. Would you say that's a bad idea? If not, is there a specific firmware version I want to avoid in the v1?

I have not been able to find reliable information regarding the different firmware versions, such as version number, release date, which bug affects which version, etc...

Thanks!

The problems with the V1 were of two kinds:

First was a problem with static in the buttons.
The watch would periodically act weird - go blank etc.

Second was a problem with the power use algorithm (firmware) which caused
it to indicate that the battery was low when it was not.

If the one you are looking at has neither of the symptoms and has been working you a probably OK. If you get it and it does act weird - contact Aeris support - they've been pretty cool about replacing them.

My V1 was great - I passed it on to a friend of mine who is still using it. I like the V2 for pool training - but my last V1 worked perfectly for thousands of dives.

Thanks again Fondueset.

If you don't mind I still have a couple of questions:
- Can I assume from your answer that I don't really need to check the V1's revision number? Any revision "could" be a good watch?
- If I buy it and discover that it is affected by one of the aforementioned issues, what would I need before I contact Aeris? (purchase date, receipt, ...?) Since I am considering buying it second-hand I'd rather know what I should ask for beforehand.

All the best.

I'd ask Aeris about it. I'm not completely sure which revision fixed the battery indicator. Hardware-wise they put insulators on the buttons - and theres really no way to tell about that either. (you might have to throw yourself on the mercy of the previous owner and ask them why they are selling it)

On another note - the Aeris Manta/Oceanic Geo are both fine freediving watches as well - and you can still find the older versions really cheap sometimes.

Thanks a lot Fondueset! I'll keep your recommendations in mind and hopefully find a nice watch.

Hello guys, do you know how good or bad is the MARES Nemo Excel for freediving? Thanks a lot
