This website is imaginative and supportive. I realized right away there is so much information here, all I need to do is read, and read, and read more. I probably won't have any questions really after navigating the forums. I am in the beginning stages of abalone diving in Northern California. I'm sure glad I found this site, just to say to the posters in advance: Thanks for sharing..

HI Shawn
Welcome to Deeperblue :)

There are quite a few people posting here from up your way.

Greetings from the Middle East!

Sara

Hi Sara,
Thanks for the welcome, yeah it seems that cold water doesn't sway too many people from the Pacific Ocean..one thing I know being raised in the Monterey Bay area, is that people really have to love it. Especially after experiencing warm water for the first time, the sensation against my skin was surreal. I realized how passionate ocean lovers are in colder climates.....LOL
Or crazy.

i dived my coldest ever in Cape Town this Xmas, it was 10degC and to me that was just about cold enough! haha! It was a great sensation for me too as I am accustomed to the cocktail diver's temps of 26deg and above :D

LOL...yeah CP is cold. I've been there 5 times working in the winter months, and it sure blows down there. I love the waters, lots of marine life moving in those waters. I never seem to be warm enough! You were there in their summer months, but those waters run cold, and its really similar to the Norcal zone.

The place I worked at was called Dungeons outside of Hout Bay, but plied both sides of the Cape...Dungeons was what I always called Mavericks sister...they were like twins with opposite behaviors, weather, water, waves, they all mirrored one another. I'm heading back there in late August again. The more I have traveled, the more I realize the world is similar in so many ways, just like people...

The middle east must be nice and cozy warm waters coming up? I was just in Italy 2 weeks ago, Fregene, outside of Rome. The Tiber river just dumps some filth into the waters, very sad.

As a kid growing up in Pacific Grove and Carmel, what I have noticed now as an adult is the near shore zones are not teeming with the marine life when I was young...in my lifetime I've seen so much change, it's really sad....
