AIDA Germany hosts a Training - and Fun-Competition in Greene, Lower Saxony. This event is especially suited for beginners who would like to know how to compete and for all others who would like to have a little bit of fun:

Sorry, this is all in German as of yet.

Hi - would anyone be able to translate some of the details into English? This looks very interesting!

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Benny,

I´ll answer any questions if I can.

It´s basically an introduction into the world of freediving competitions for beginners.

On Saturday we´ll have an introduction into the rules and regulations, followed by an explanation of the safety techniques. Then you´ll hear something about the secrets of static apnea by Tom Sietas himself with an in-water-session of static apnea after that.

After a break the real competition is going to start up with the disciplines static apnea and dynamic apnea.

Once this is compelted there is going to be a little party with a buffet and a small celebration for the winners of the competition. In the competion you can win not only a small keg of the famous Einbecker Beer but also a full weekend of mountainbiking fun in the hills of the Solling which is nearby.

And this is not all: There is also the still secret fun-competion which will follow on Sunday morning when everybody has recovered from the party

Doesn´t that sound fun ?

Holger

Thanks Holger, sounds brilliant.

So how would somebody get to Greene? I don't really know anything about Germany (grew up in Australia and haven't travelled much yet). I live in London so would probably fly to the nearest city. Easyjet flies to Bremen and tickets look quite cheap. Is that the best option?

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Benny,

a flight to Hannover Airport would be a better idea.

And from there by train to Kreiensen, which is supposed to be near Greene. I could look up a connection for you, once you got the flight.

Holger

Best of Luck Ben!

Anyone know when / where results will be posted?

Mark

Big congrats to Ben (AKA BennyB) for coming in 1st in the dynamic (with 100m) and 2nd overall in the comp !
Very good result for his first ever comp, well done. The most important thing is he won the beer, if they only made that part of regular competitions you would get far more of us Aussies competing. :friday

Cheers,
Wal

The results from the team-competition are now ready to be downloaded from the page. There is also a short report (in German only, sorry) and you can try to spot Ben in the group photo.

Vivien, are we going to see you at the next competition in Berlin which is coming up soon ?

best wishes

No, I don't think so. Maybe as a guest, but I'm no competetive freediver.

I don't use Exel. Is there another way to watch the results?

What can I say, this was a fantastic weekend! Before I arrived from England, I was quite daunted by the fact that it was my first competition and I was the only non-German, however from the moment my wife and I arrived we were touched by the generosity and friendliness of everybody. A couple of the guys volunteered their time to help translate the lectures for me, and in the comp itself the times were announced in both German and English, so I had no problems there. It was also a massive buzz to meet Tom Sietas and to chat to him about various aspects of freediving.

This kind of format was brilliant, where you have lectures first then the comp. Any nerves I had were compensated by the laid back atmosphere and the overall feeling of fun that everyone had. For quite a few people this was their first competition and a few of the guys did PB's. Both my static and dynamic were best i've done in a few months, I think this was indicative of the relaxed atmosphere. And on the Sunday, the team events were great fun - music cranking, people laughing and some really fun events. Though after doing 2 dynamic baton races (6 laps each race) back to back, I slept well on Sunday night!

I have to make mention of a couple of people in particular that went out of their way to help us - Holger, Hartmut, Thomas, Stefan & Sharanne - thank you so much guys for making Pen and I feel so welcome, we can't wait to see you all again some time.

I certainly hope the comp will be on next year, I will definitely go again! Where else am I going to get Einbecker beer?:friday

Cheers,
Ben
