This means the full AIDA Ranking list 2008 will never published.

How many athletes is the organisation aiming for?

I mean with these requirements on top of the cost of transport in the current economical environment I think it's going to be small participants group.

How many participants have already applied?

If an athlete qualify for ONE discipline will be able to compete in the other?

With about 30 countries in active competition participation, each country could send 2 athletes (one in constant, one in CNF). That is 60 athletes.

Then, there are the 12 top athletes in each event, which gives around 20 athletes (due to overlap of those athletes in both events).

Then, there are the countries that could send 2 athletes due to one athlete making the minimum, this could add perhaps 15 more athletes.

So the total number of eligible athletes is 95 per sex, or 190 total. The organizer is aiming for 50 participants, which means 50/190 = 26% of eligible athletes.

Personally I think the minima should be universal. Anyone over 75m/40m should automatically qualify.

From the 2008 Ranking list I see that only about 22 different males have managed to make a CWT dive to 75m or more.
The same goes for CNF, about 22 different males have done more than 40+m.

Ok, I see that maybe I've misunderstood reading:
one athlete/sex/discipline from each country plus if this first athlete is equal or better than the minima, the country can send ONE more athlete.

Does it say:

1 - ONE athlete/sex/discipline from each country - regardless of depth(s) reached in AIDA Competitions.

2 - TWO athlete's per sex and discipline when BOTH athletes, since after the 27th of November 2007, have done more in an AIDA Competition than the minimal for the discipline they want to start in?

Sorry I'm a bit confused.
Initially I thought that ONLY people were allowed to participate who made the (steep) minima.

I don't believe these selection criteria are 'steep' for a world championship sporting event. Basically we are working to create a championship between the top freedivers of the world, whilst still allowing each country to send at least one person per discipline (to promote the sport in nations where it is still developing).
There are many other competitions available during the year for those who don't yet reach these criteria.
To compete in both disciplines will require qualification for both.

Thanks guys. By the sounds of things, all the restrictions apply to individual disciplines, not the competition as a whole. This means that an athlete that qualifies as top 10 in dynamics would take a country spot in dynamics if they chose to compete in that too. Is that correct?

Selection should be fun, especially for depth...

Hi there Bill and all, thanks for the info ..

One more question please,

then one athlete/sex/discipline from each country plus if this first athlete is equal or better than the minima, the country can send ONE more athlete.

The country mentioned here, does it have to have an AIDA national ? like here in the UAE we are still working on it. Could we represent UAE BEFORE opening AIDA-UAE ?

It have to be a AIDA National, yes.

BUT - if there is no AIDA National in the country there have to be sent a special request to the AIDA Board.

Hi Bill, since Adolphin brought a neighbouring subject up;

I am an AIDA member, but not to my passport country.
- Can I according to AIDA international rules 'represent' my passport country?

Thanks!

Kars

Hi Kars,

For AIDA WC you have to represent your passport-country. And to represent your country you have to be a member of your countries national AIDA if there is one. If there is NO national AIDA in your country you have to send a special request to the AIDA Executive Board.

Remember that most National AIDA's also have some sort of selection that the their athletes have to pass to qualify in the national team.

Have a nice day

Has this been aswered?
2 - TWO athlete's per sex and discipline when BOTH athletes, since after the 27th of November 2007, have done more in an AIDA Competition than the minimal for the discipline they want to start in?

If a country have two athletes that make the minima in CWT, and they have two athletes that make the minima in CNF, can they send four athletes?
