Thanks Phil, and thank you for giving me the sponge paint tips from the french gun. I'm prepping Double Trouble and Tiputa ( laminate gun in first post) for refinish with your Herranen resin system. I'll post them my other
'' My first gun thread '' in a couple weeks.
Thanks, Don

The last images were just lay up of the camo pattern.
I decided I wanted a little more texture and uniqueness, something like the skin of a water snake.
I learned that if I can get a good enough grip on the muzzle I can load the guns 7mm shaft with my right hand.
So here we go to try something different.....

I taped out the barrel with good 3m blue, than washed with acetone, followed by sanding prep with 80 to
give the G-flex 650 good texture to key to. Wipe down one more time with acetone.
I carried out the work at 78 deg F mixing the G-flex one to one in a wide plastic cup.
The work time at this temp is around 45min before it begins to gel.
Next I applied a wet coat to half the barrel with a foam brush, then laid on my pre-cut camo paper I had scanned and mocked up last week. I used the foam brush to pat a second top coat over the paper.
Now comes the tricky part: after 30min I tied off 10 lb mono line to the muzzle and very carefully wrapped over the camo/resin using app 7mm spacing between wraps.Once the G-flex became tacky I carefully unwound the mono leaving a snake like texture. The images show the the progress before the mono was removed. I'll update wed night after baseball.

Cheers, Don

It looks just the way as I imagined, now that the mono is unwrapped and the epoxy is curing hard. It has a reptile/snake look and feel. The gun is only half way there. I was thinking of doing the handle in olive wood to keep it .....
Italian and fit my hand like a breast.....I mean glove.:t
Martini time..... for my stiff back of course.
Ta mate. Don

Here are some images before I pull the handle/reel and sand lightly with 80 for good keying of the Phil Herranen resin top coat.
I have decided not to camo the reel at this point as I may be doing one in Ti
if I really like the gun. I plan on a sea water shake down at the end of next
week.
Cheers, Don Paul

Cant wait for the "finished gun in the water test with big fish story"

I still don't get it. With all the pretty band toys that you have (and mostly made), why would you stoop to a manufactured gun that doesn't even have a place for bands? It all sounds so blasphemous!

Hi Howard,
I have not used a production gun to hunt fish on a regular basis ever.If the gun can't be made to perform in my inshore waters it will end up as a wall hanger.

I don't want to come off as a A-hole, but my double has spoiled me, and I need to get back to basics, back to my roots. I have been a Blue water snob for too long, so I'm going to mix it up with climbing down cliffs and beach diving off the wall places by myself.

No one in my clan would consider using a airgun at this time, many would be happy to shoot fish at 30' off the tip. All I want from this gun is a dirty water gun for 10 to 12 feet off the tip. If I get rolled on a rocky
coast in big surf and lose it, I will not be losing much sleep. I want to keep my personal guns for my kid to donate some day.

I have many air guns along with the woodies and springs. This Omer Airbalete has a muzzle profile that I may want to build on. Even if the technology has been around for a long time, this is a fresh redesign.

Here's to blasphemy.... why do you think I'm doing a holly wood handle?
I look forward to coming up some year and doing some fly fishing.
All the best friend,
Don

Just give me a little warning before the plane arrives. There are outfitters that specialize in fly fishing, as well as all other fishing possibilities.

"climbing down cliffs" sounds kind of like the spot Skip got the 80 lb wsb.

Ciao Don Paul , this looks like a fun gun to shoot some WSB for sure, please let me know if you ever need a local Dive buddy ,,,

P.S. Noah was peeking at the screen over my shoulder ,, He said "That camo is RAD ,Don Paul is Awsome"

Thanks Joe and Noah, I just finished the last coat of Phil Herranen resin top coat, it's still wet but here's a quick shot. The color's are really starting to have depth.
Cheers, Don

Didn't scare the duck with the new camo,:t bringing the squeeze up to 30
bar for sea trails next week. Buoyancy in fresh water with the new skin seems very close to test 1. Using the hand pump and not my tank to pressurize ( want to take my fish with muscle powered energy).
Cheers, Don Paul

be nice to it the first couple days you dont get full cure for 7 days(actuality epoxy only cures around 90% of its full potential for a long time unless post cure baked) .it is ez the scratch the first 3 days . you can speed up the full cure by post cure baking 100f to 120f for 12 hours

Thanks TinMan and Phil. I cut and pasted your comprehensive PH resin application instructions. The Barrel was getting the Black Suburban treatment. I really found this finish easy to work with, Thanks Phil.:friday

Nitrobalete Top Ten

The Top Ten Reasons why I will try Nitrogen .

#10.Lighter then air. (well less dense)
#9. less pressure increase on sun heated barrel.
#8.less mosture in the barrel chamber.
#7.less oxidizing on rubber parts.
#6.In Molecular size.... bigger is better.
#5.Have a large tank of it already.
#4.Feel the name Airbalete is a cheep rip off of the french crossbow.... Arbalete. Easy.... you know I'm kidding I'm half French.:t
#3. Paint ball shops have cool chicks with tat's.
#2. Hey baby....it's Nitro Powered.
And the number one reason I going to try Nitrogen in my gun is....

'' Getting tired of saying....Yes baby it's just me pumping my gun''.

OK, so when do we get to hear about the nitro special?

Since air is already 80% nitrogen, do you think the elimination of the O2 is worth the effort?

I understand the idea of "dry" gas from a tank, but is the oxidation increase caused by O2 molecules bouncing closer together likely to change the oxidation?

As an alternate, how about argon? Available from welding supply houses, and very inert.

Just curious,
Howard
