Hello everyone from land-locked Alberta Canada! Over the last 2 years I've been bitten by the Spearfishing bug, and spend a majority of the spring, summer & fall stalking the local waters around Alberta for legal fish to hunt. Nothing fancy about the fish we are allowed to target around here. Mostly spearing in rivers streams and lakes. We do venture West (British Columbia) & East (Sask) but haven't tested the waters as of yet. We are planning a summer vacation this summer to sask to visit family and friends and plan to get a license to do some fishing while there ad of I recall Norther Pike are open to spearing.

I only know one other Spearo, in the Calgary area and we get out only a couple times a year together, as our schedules sometimes clash...

Basically dive alone, although the better half has shown an interest in giving it a go this summer. And the children ages (8-9) have expressed an Interest in leaning to spear with me this summer, so this spring I've been diving and snorkeling a local creek which contains a large population of Sucker Fish, and is relatively shallow and mild compared to some of the big rivers I fish (Bow River) and looks to be a great place to teach the kids what limited experience I have as far as spearing goes.

Would love to meet up & make contact with other people locally or through out Canada (around Alberta, British Columbia & Sask) and possibly find some people to get out in the water with.

I have basic gear, but I'm able to hit the water up until fall with a decent wetsuit. My gun of choice was a 1970 Nemrod Falcon (medium) which is still used. Just recently picked up a JBL Explorer 22 which still hasn't got bloody by myself, hopefully this weekend or following week.

If anyone around my neck of the woods wants to meet up for some spearing, like
Minded company is always welcome!

Welcome to DB @403Jeeping - Canada has a strong Freediving and Spearfishing community although it can be a bit fragmented to find. Suggest you post in the US/Canada forum to find buddies - also Performance Freediving are HQ'd in Vancouver area so might be worth touching base with Kirk/Mandy there... Let us know how you get on.

Welcome to Deeperblue! Are suckers the only species you're allowed to hunt in your area?
Suckers & other no sport fish we are allowed to target. Not very many options. But Suckers are plentiful around here.

I do have options of Saskatchewan to target northern pike & options to go to British Columbia. The Saskatchewan trip is in the planning stage as we are taking the family up there to visit some relieves this summer.

Thanks for the direction I'll definitely check that out.
