After diving on Thursday on the South Coast (East Devon) I ran into the dreaded algal bloom... stinks a bit???
I have come across it before but not quite as extensive as this?
This algae has been identified (by the environment agency) as mainly phaeocystis which blooms in our current ideal conditions... as in not enough sun to kill it off and months of excess nutrients being deposited in the sea?
Big question is when will it end?
It looks like we need a good storm to wash it away... which may be some time in coming from the south?
Might be a good idea to stay updated on its proliferation and whereabouts on the south/south-west coastline?
Further sightings/information would also be much appreciated?
