Hey...

I just got a FINI Competitor Monofin... lots more power.. but man it is eating away the tops of my toes...

Any clues or advice to protect my toes... I tried layering bandaids with extra tape.. but that didnt really work... toes were still bleeding after just a 1/4 mile...

Thanks

Have you tried a half-sock? They are made for monofins. You could also try a thin (2mm) neoprene sock. I've even heard of people using plastic bags over their toes to stop the rubbing.

If you haven't got neoprene socks or the fin is too tight for socks, use a silicone based lubricant and coat the affected areas of your foot before putting the fin on.

If you have blisters/raw spots already, put some sort of fabric tape over these and then put the silicone lube on.

A while ago in Egypt I was using borrowed fins for a week and rubbed my toes raw on the first day. I used the silicone grease that came with my camera housing and that did the trick nicely.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Ben

Hey Thanks for the tip.... Man those are soem good pics on yoru site... Ive been looking for an underwater camera.. what did you use? Thanks again.... Im on my way to the water now!

I have the same mono, a competitor. I use 1 mm neoprene socks and when I can't find those I slip on a pair of black dress socks. The really thin ones. Like basically the kind you would wear with a fancy suit and dress shoes. Those work just fine. I know what you mean though, the foot pockets on that fin eat people's feet for breakfast! :blackeye
