Tragic news from the islands. It is with a sad and somber heart that I am reporting this. Apparently at the US National Spearfishing Tournament yesterday one of Hawaii's as well as the world's greatest spearfishermen passed away. I got a phone call this afternoon that was later confirmed by local news that Gene Higa drowned off Oahu's North Shore. When Gene missed the checkout, search and rescue was called and fellow competitors searched for Gene. His body was found about 3/4 of a mile form shore. Though I never met him, all those who knew him had nothing but kind words to say about this man. My deepest condolences to the Higa family from not only myslef but from fellow divers around the world. Aloha no bradda Gene. I'll dive with in heaven.

Brad

I too heard the news yesterday as I was camping on the North Shore. My little contact with Gene through emails and advice on installing his open muzzles was positive and Gene was most helpful. It is a sad day in the spearfishing community when we lose a fellow diver. People suspect Shallow Water Blackout, if this is so, then we realize that we are all vullnerable. Aloha Gene, you will be missed.

Howzit Hawaiian Braddahs! Surfin through the posts and ran across this one. Some sad yeah about Gene? I never crossed paths with him before but one of my friends has nothing but admiration for him. My condelences to his family. Aloha Gene.

Eh Brad, so you from Hilo? I from Honokaa but I live in Seattle. What year you grad? So how da diving been down there? What's new at Tokunaga store? What lines of guns they carrying? Sorry for all the questions. I just glad to see some local boyz participating in the discussions. I pretty knew on da forums.

Uluapounder, you pound some opihi lately? Just kidding brah. I know no mo too much opihi odea. I used to live on Oahu too for about six years. The diving was awesome there but I never know any good spots so I always had hard time find fish. Maybe was just me, me I shallow water kine guy.

Hope I get to know you boyz on the forum. So once in a while a make a trip back to the big island. I always looking for a dive partner.
