I thought i was certain i was doing frenzel but now im not sure because reading more about it i see you use your cheeks to create the pressure?

Is there any way to confirm wether or not im doing frenzel or valsalva?

Im able to equalize my ears with completely empty lungs for starters. Also my throat expands up when i equalize. But im deffinatly not using my cheeks to create the pressure. Is it possible to do valsalva with totally empty lungs?

If you are doing it really on empty lungs (best after a few reverse packs), then it is Frenzel. You use cheeks in mouth-fill. And of course, one does not exclude the other - you can use both cheeks and the tongue piston too.

I dont know how to do reverse packs but i do blow out every ounce of air making the weezy sound and all and can equalize just the same.

Where is your tongue when you equalise? What is it doing?

It's quite easy to think you are exhaling all the air out but in reality there is plenty left...

When you equalise, do your lungs/diaphragm move at all?

When i equalize my toungue naturally presses against the roof of my mouth. My lungs dont move at all. Not sure if my diaphrams moving? But my upper throat above my adams apple feels like it expands from the pressure and my adams apple moves up.

Sounds like Frenzel - don't think your tongue would be there if it was valsava...

Ok i learned how to reverse pack and when i totally max out reverse packs i can still equalize. Must be doing frenzel then eh?

Ok, this thread helped a lot. Seems like I'm doing Frenzel too. Been doing it all my life without even knowing it... :)

Just learnt to Frenzel thanks to Herr Doktor "divebomber" Frenzel, Eric Fattah's tips, a few good vids on youtube and wikipedia.

It took me a few hours and at first I couldn't figure out how to move my tongue. Then I read the wiki article that said it was like when you start to swallow, and that gave me the vital clue I was missing.

Now got my buddy and her 8-year old son all doing it - the Frenzel family :)

This really worked for us:
Put your tongue flat up against roof of your mouth inside you upper teeth
Pinch nose
Try to swallow
You should eventually pop your ears
Your Adam's apple will move up with the tongue movement when you've got it
That's the tongue movement you want
Keep trying

Once you've understood the piston tongue movement, try just placing your fingertips over your nostrils so air under pressure can escape then Frenzel repeatedly say once a second, pumping the air out through your nose.

Try with empty lungs: an exhale Valsavia will only give you a really weak ear pop, a Frenzel tongue pump still gives you whopping great repeated ear pops.
