I am heading out to Jordan towards the end of July.... difficult to see if there are any bodies of water around or close Amman - even lakes...

Does anyone know the area?

Been only to the airport but from the plane this area looked pretty arid.
You can probably get to Aqaba which is on the red-sea in a few hours drive. Maybe they have flights, if so they are probably no longer than 1 hour.
A friend of mine who dove in Aqaba had only good things to say. Saw a picture of a really nice wreck which should be freedive-able (20-30m).
Petra is considered as a touristic destination (if you're into world-heritage old ruins), should be close to Aqaba.

Aqaba is only 3 1/2 hours drive from Amman so we will be taking down the kayaks when possible (and my diving gear, Paul doesnt dive any more).

i cant wait - and we also might be staying there for good, i will know next week :friday
