Alright everybody, let's see how much interest we can generate for the First Annual DeeperBlue Fish Slaughter and Grill at Lake Powell in July of '07. Colt.45 and I are starting to slowly put this thing together but we will need to get some firm interest. The idea is to rent a 70-75' houseboat that sleeps 12-14 to use as a base. Of course if the entirety of our Canadian contingent temporarily immigrates, we may need more than one! Additionally, there will be skiffs, powerboats, funcraft or whatever to hunt from. Proposed prize catagories will include First Fish, Biggest Fish, Saddest Story and Worst Wipeout. Other suggestions will be taken under consideration. :rofl Bring the kiddies! Bring The Blond. Come as you want. Much beer, much cookin', but bring your own (deleted on account of family website!).

Hmmmm July 07 should put me right at the end of a Turbine Endorsement if all goes well.......

BUT, for starters.... I have a Question:

Where is Lake Powell ?

Lake Powell is on the Colorado River. It's a huge impoundment downstream from Grand Canyon (unless it's just upstream, close by, anyhow) in the same kind of extraordinary landscape with multi-color rocks, stone arches and spires, etc. There is a storied striped bass fishery there, along with the usual largemouth, catfish, trout and such but the best news is that on the Utah side spearfishing for stripers is legal . . . and they grow to 60 lbs!. The air will be hot, the water cool, the beer cold, the . . . well, you get the picture.

Ok, I might can do this. whats the viz in the lake? Accomidations?...are there any other things to do other than spearfish (the girlfriend spears but will want to go do girly things...I have to have those in mind if I'm to get her to say YEAAAH LETS GO!.

other species that are legal to spear other than stripers?

this sounds like alot of fun.

Accomodations are 70-75' houseboat with staterooms, galley, hot tub, etc, etc. If there are enough ladies along, I know that they will make up their own girly things just sitting on the deck chairs and chatting. And if we get enough little kids along, they'll all just get pink and melty. Even my wife will get into that act.

what sort of shootin gear is needed for these 60 lb stripers?whats the vis like? depth?

sounds like great fun, if i could get my US tourists visa in order, and a wetsuit, might make the trip up :) would love to do some spearing in a lake. (i'll need like what.. a 5 mil wetsuit?)

Fore lake powell a 3-5mm wet suti is all that you will really need but it kinda depends on how deep you go (it geets kinda cold around the 500 foot mark):D most of the time the fish you will see range between 1/2lb blugill and 20-30lb carp and striper I would recomend a 75-90cm gun the vis is usally betmeen 15 and 30 feet depending on where you are (the best vis is usally between bluufrog and san juan) so all the shots will be pretty close, but you can use whatever you want. If you shoot a 60lb striper hang on tight! these fish are verry strong and 60 lbs of any thing is pretty tuff to get to the surface hope this helps

Could be an intersting Road Trip :D I have some buddies In Utah and Nevada..... Hmmmmmm

will keep in mind :D

What other species are legal!?????!!!?

I think I might can do this.

I will need someone to pick us up from the nearest Airport though. How long is everyone planning on staying?

aside from unlimited carp and striper you can take 2 of any other type of gamefish per day per person: blue gill large/small mouth bass catfish walley crapy ect.

The more who sign up, the less the cost each. If a whole crew decide to come along, we'll have to get another houseboat.

Sign me up boys, I grew up on that lake. My uncle has a marine maintinance business in Page Az. (LLL marine) So if you guys need any local intel, or anything let me know. I am far more familiar with the southern end of the lake, but as far a striper fishing goes the bullfrog area has always been better in the past. We have encountered huge boils as far south as cookie jar though. thanks guys and keep me posted. (connections at whawheep marina)

Just a Quick one , some short answers.
1 where is the nearest airport(ref ticket prices)
2 license fees
3 bringing spearguns into US.
4 just an avarage cost per person for the 7 days on the boat.
5 isnt lake powel where tomy-lee and pammy made that home movie?

5. I dunno
4. I've got Cold45 working on that one
3. No problem. It's fishing gear. Just show it to the TSA guys and make sure it's in a hard case to protect it from baggage gorillas.
2. We'll get back to you on that.
1. I need to look at a map but I suspect Flagstaff, AZ but it might be Salt Lake.
