I wouldn't normally take up space for this, but the "Welcome new member, introduce yourself!" message keeps following me around. 
32 male from Southern California. I've been away from diving -- both SCUBA and free -- for about ten years; thinking about starting again. Frankly, the one thing that's holding me back is all this talk about shallow water blackout. I fit Terry Maas's "at risk" category almost to a "T" (young, competitive, male, etc.) and reading some of the threads around here makes it seem almost as though venturing anywhere near the beach will cause you to fall over and die.
I'll look for an up-to-date thread on SWB and ask my questions.
Otherwise, thanks for a great site, and I look forward to chatting with you folks.
