Hi, Im new to this of course, and have a few general questions. I am not interested in any serious free divin(yet). I am mainly a surfer/whitewater kayaker, and would like to increase time and comfort when it comes to being under water. I realize there are many risks to this activity. blackout etc. even when done in a pool.

one of the questions i have is. Are there any health effects to holding your breath for such a long period of time either above or below the surface? when i try doing breath holds above the water, i wonder if im killing my brain, or brain cells by depriving it of oxygen?

so far this is the main question i have, any thoughts on the health side effects of doing breath holds would be great,. have a great day, aaron.

Hi Widra

There is not brain damage when practicing apnea. I been observing my friends and they look prety normal, haha rofl rofl rofl

I was talking with my friends who surf, and they are sure that some apnea training wil be very usefull, as you said, for that time under water.

I'm prety sure you'll get more info from the experts here at DB

Cheers

Brain damage starts after you black out. As long as you are conscious, you should be fine.
