My name is Hermes, I'm from Greece and I'm 21 . Well...what else? Nice place you got here, lots of information :D. Now, excuse me. I have a lot of threads to read. I'll come back with questions xD. Safe dives... :)

Well, I have read a lot of useful things, still it seems, I can't calm when I'm in the bottom. I have an static apnea of 3:30 , but when I'm in the water, just looking at the fishes, i keep thinking of how much air I have left, and I can't stay more than 30 seconds (of no moving I repeat). Any tips on distracting me self? It's kind of embarrasing staying for that little underwater.

It's more embarrassing to black out and having to be rescued... Don't stress about staying longer, relax as much as possible, work on your technique to dive more efficiently (especially duck dives and equalisation) and make sure you never dive alone!
 
Well we agree , friend. But we're talking about a depth of 3 meters...Also I can equalize pretty much all the time.

Plenty of people have blacked out in pools a lot shallower than that Ermi. If you stay under long enough, you'll black out, simple as that - and especially if you are hyperventilating, you won't even see it coming at all.

I understand what you say , that's why I avoid going deeper, or staying longer. But, there must be a trick, to help my underwater time, without risking black out, or anything dangerous.

Relaxation is the key... :)

No tricks in freediving, just training and relaxation. Don't do any fast or deep breathing before diving (called hyperventilation), it's very dangerous.

A buddy is mandatory, sorry wish I could say otherwise - believe me it's frustrating for me too as I don't have a buddy so I don't freedive for now...

No that's an advanced technique called 'packing' - you basically use your mouth to pump more air in your lungs.

It can be dangerous for other reasons and unless you advance, it won't help you stay under for longer, probably the opposite!

When you begin it's normally a combination of using too much energy and non being relaxed when you dive and CO2 tolerance. The more CO2 tolerance you build, the more dangerous things become as you don't get the urge to breathe (or can ignore it) and you get closer to BO....
