My cousin, who lost a leg when he was 5 is keen to get involved in freediving. His leg is amputated mid thigh. He is very strong in the upper body, fit and a good swimmer too. We are about to start some pool sessions to see how he gets on with fin swimming but I was wondering if there were any other freedivers out there who face similar challenges and who wouldn't mind sharing their techniques/stories?

He doesn't take life too seriously and most certainly isn't held back by it. He thinks the benefit that he has over us two legged people is that if he loses a fin at least he'll have a spare seeing as the foot pockets are not left/right specific! :D

Thanks Jenny, just what I was looking for. I will point him to the thread and see where it all goes. :)

Have your cousin google "lonefin" (aka Troy Williams). He's a serious tuna hunter that doesn't seem to let one fin slow him down

We had a guy who would go backwards with his breast stroke kick so did arms only in no fins and went much further. Good buoyancy would help.
