Does anyone know if there are ANY areas of the coast where depths of 60+ feet are reachable from the shore without a boat?

I've been considering a refresher certification course, and so far the only Texas options I've seen are conducted in lakes.

Freedive certifications in TX other than lakes? Shore access to 60ft depth in TX? The answer is "no" unfortunately.

The coast is surrounded by a huge shelf of sediment dumped from Mississippi river and port of galveston (i guess) so there is no rocky drop-off like in CA. (see pic from google). The further S you get, the closer you are to the Blue Water. Even as far South as South Padre Island (S tip of TX), you need at least a small boat/panga to get to 60ft depth.

I have dived several of the lakes in Central TX, even took the course you're speaking of. The cold, dark silt-bottom lakes are um... interesting. There's a group of us that dive the shallower lakes (40-50') around Houston every weekend simply as an excuse to get wet. That said, we'll be traveling for future certifications.
