Any Tampa area freedivers?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
When I lived in Tampa, two years ago now, there was a st. petes spearfishing club. I think they used to have a website.

The only guys I knew there that freedove were spearfisherman, and you either had to go a long way off the coast in the gulf of mexico or to the eastern seaboard to find decent freediving. Most of the spearfisherman were more than willing to take along a freediver when they went out.

Hope that helps!

Thanks James,

I'll check into that club. I'd like to do some spearfishing as well so that may workout just right.

Hi Scott, I'm not a Florida resident, but I found a site that is quite active as far as freediver/spearos. Give it a try (the site has been having some technical trouble for the last 24 hours, so be patient)

www.spearboard.com

Good luck and welcome to DeeperBlue!

Thanks OceanSwimmer,

I'll checkout the site. Sounds like a great place to learn more. I appreciate your help,

Scott

tampa freedivers

Hi AsahiToro,

The club in St Pete is the ST Pete Underwater Club, in Tampa, the Tampa Tridents, in Clearwater, the Sunshine Fins. The St Pete club used to have some seriously good freediver spearos, probably still does. You should be able to find them all through various dive shops. JMDs right about the conditions, not real conducive to freediving at its best. However, if you can find a ride to about 25 miles off Bayport, 50-60 ft of water can be pretty scenic. Spring time is best. Good luck

Connor

Thanks Conner,

I didn't realize I had all of those clubs nearby. I'll check with my LDS's to find out more. I'd like to do some diving in the springs in central/north Florida as well. Maybe it's best I'm not going too deep yet. I'm all for making trips to other locations in Florida and elsewhere once my skills are sharpened more and I can handle deeper dives. Thanks again for your input,

Scott
