anybody freediving in Sri Lanka

I have been there some 10 years ago and found only strange looks when entering the water with mask and snorkel 
maybe different now. The North East (Niliveli) was hit quite bad by the tsunami but offered a few nice sites like pigeon island.
It is hard to find the 'off the beaten rack' areas that may be nice as they are mostly in the landmined north. Don't go wondering around there.
Elswhere (other than the NE) the water, from memory, is quite murkey.
I would love to go back though, more for the 'short eats' than the freediving

About 10 years ago a Brit living in Sri Lanka belonged to the Freedivelist. He was diving with a couple of local professional spearfishermen, and they got some very nice fish.
Of course they were spearfishing. Perhaps you are are looking for people to engage in pure freediving.

Hi all,
I will be going to Sri Lanka in April for a couple of weeks and would like to do some spearfishing while there. Does anybody on the forum have any information about the place, areas to go, local contacts, etc.?
