Hi,
Back in October I was asked to give my impression of the Apnea Academy course I was planning to attend.
For those of you who don't know, the Apnea Academy is an organization originally set up by Umberto Pelizzari in 1995. It has something like 120 qualified instructors all over the world.
I haven't written until now, because I still haven't finished the course!!!! The total cost was under 300 Euro and I have lost count of the pool, classroom and openwater classes I have attended. We covered everything from the most basic breastroke technique, though the physiology of apnea to navigation at sea and CW dives to -30+m.
Given the range of abilities on the course, we were forces to take it slow, but we were all eventually pushed to our limits. Unless you are an expert looking only to fine-tune your technique, I would recommend it to anyone.
Honestly it has been worth the money just to meet the people with whom I've now started to dive independently of the course.
The cherry on the cake is the series of International Apnea Competitions that will be organized by the Academy during the year (in the most beautiful of Italian locations). Each instructor has to build his team(s) from his students. For me this will close out the course in the most spectacular of ways.
If anyone wants to ask more specific questions then please let me know.
Ciao
Al
