Just a quick update on this. After having a few weeks practice i think it might have been related and could be to do with the way in which i was holding my breath. After starting abdominal breathing i think the majority of my air is lower in my body during holds which has helped me to cap the air lower down in a more comfortable position. To conclude, i think it could have been related due to inexperience in hold technique which allowed the air too far up my throat causing pressure to the wrong places.
