Over the summer, I started regularly practicing static dry apnea during off days. I got to the point where I was constantly doing 4:00 minutes with a personal best of 4:35. About two months ago, I started walking apnea to help practice while moving. Sometimes when I didn't have the time to get out and walk, I would just do static again at home. Over the past couple of weeks, my times have been getting worse and worse. Currently struggling to hit 3:30 static. Does anyone else's time fluctuate and is there a reason for it? Not sure if its a diet thing for me or a mental issue. Should I change my training routine?

Thanks

Not sure how often you train, but have you thought of being over trained? A break often can do wonders.

I got the same issue. I've reached my PB 4'15" straight after coming back from holidays and discovering something like "freediving". After that I couldn't get even close to that having usually something between 3'30"-4'. What is important I got my PB while having the first contraction at 1'20". After some days of unsuccessful attempts I gave up. I've changed my diet, got the books about freediving I've ordered in the meantime, read them...then one day I've prepared myself for the whole day by getting into apnea during my breaks at work. When I got home I reached 4'04" after third attempt with first contraction around 1'40" (I counted them every time doing static and it looks like I can withstand something above 60 of them, I stop counting at 60 and focus on whithstanding a bit more) and the conditions to do that were not perfect so I'm satisfied.
Conclusion. Reaching my PB I was very motivated and ready to fight, now I'm much more aware and quite biased for the attitude that apnea should be pleasure not a fight with pain so my motivation for fight is quite low. Right now I'm much more focused on moving the moment of first contraction a bit further than withstanding more pain.
I think the answer for your question is motivation and the level of relaxation.

You weren't ready for those PB times, too early, very typical for novice driven by ambitions to hit higher numbers purely on guts alone. This bites you in the rear thats all. Take it philosophycally and stay away from numbers game. You either enjoy this sport, or push-push and stay in the red all the time. My 2c
