Well, just when you think the Kiwi records are getting rather challenging to exceed Mr Brew decides to hold his head underwater for a mere 8 minutes and 47s, and comes up cursing that he didn't hold it for a few more seconds to hit the big nine.

Results for this morning's first session (statics):
Ben Jeffares: 3:08
Chris Marshall: 5:11
Guy Brew: 8:47
Ruth Griffin: 5:06
Suzy Osler: 4:35
Kathryn McPhee: 6:18

Great to see a new name (hi ben) in there and some bloody great familar ones too.
Guy - you are Mr Consistent of late - well done mate.
Best wishes everyone for a great day tomorrow....
thoughts with you all.

Results for session 2 from today:

Kerian Hibbs, DNF, 160
Dave Mullins, DNF, 176
Chris Marshall, DNF, 129
Simon Birkenhead, DNF, 84
Ben Jeffares, DYN, 83
Phil Clayton, DYN, 176 (penalty -5)

Taija Peach, DYN, 100 (penalty -1)
Suzy Osler, DNF, 82
Ruth Griffin, DYN, 100
Kathryn McPhee, DYN, 155

Congratulations to every one!
Nice distance Kerian! Well done mate.

Results from the final session today:

Kerian Hibbs, DYN 208m
Dave Mullins, DYN 100m DQ
Chris Marshall, DYN 105m
Simon Birkenhead, DYN 93m
Phil Clayton, DNF 138m (British national record)
Guy Brew, DYN 201m
Ruth Griffin DNF 88m (-5 penalty)
Suzy Osler, DYN 117m
Kathryn McPhee, DNF 151m

A great comp overall - some pretty huge results, no black outs and only really one samba, a few PBs and generally happy people (apart from Tammy the very bored safety diver and all the medic's friends who came along wanting to see some action).

Two national records: Guy's STA 8:47 and Phil's DNF 138m

Our two new divers Ben (NZ) and Simon (British) achieved some great results too.

Guy came up a bit disappointed with his 201 dynamic too. That boy is a real worry!

Kerian's two big swims had him coming up fresh as a daisy. I think there's plenty left in the tank for later... :D

Hey Fran, Chris.

Yeah, was happy to nail 100 points in both disiplines. Nothing wrong with being a bit greedy though! Will know to push a little harder next time.

Dave was clearly using the comp for a training run... Kerian looked great after both of his swims - really relaxed. I totally stuffed up my DYN prep, was pulling on my fin with under a minute to top time... that won't happen again. So some good learnings along with decent results for a bunch of us.

Another well run comp. Judges were great and the medic was bored. Very impressed with Kathyrn's organisational skills - while still being able to nail some excellent performances - don't you hate the way girls can multi-task?!

Ciao,
Guy

Wow great results by all, congrats !
Amesome static Guy, won't be long at all before you crack 9+ in comp, also to being the 4th official 200m+ Kiwi. Kerian is still making big jumps, 160m DNF, 208m DYN !!
Kathryn no doubt not wanting to be controversial and set an unofficial world record stopped just when she equalled it. The next AIDA pool world championships should just be held in NZ, that way it would have a higher level of competition. :t :)

Cheers,
Wal

We'd still only be able to send a handful of athletes though!

So Wal, when're you gonna get an NZ passport then? :D

Right, I guess there are a couple of NZ National records that aren't world records, why the static is only around 9 minutes.... :t

Huge congratulations to everyone on their great performances.

It's awesome to see that Brits are surviving away from the homeland!!!
Well done Phil for improving your record.

Congrats all! Amazing performances. What happened to Dave in DYN? DQ after 100m? Did he focus just on DNF and gave up DYN? I imagine he can make long series of 100m without bigger problems normally.

Athletes (especially highranking) sometimes deliberately fails SP to avoid low results in the AIDA ranking of year.

Yes, I know that, but I was rather curious why he abandoned it at 100m. And, of course, I know there may be plenty of reasons for that, but was just curious

Just not having a good day. At the moment I'm looking to do some pretty big distances so pulled up early in both disciplines as the prospect of completing a mediocre swim wasn't very motivating. I was also trying a slower style (2:05 for the first 100m in DYN). Works in training, but might need to speed up a bit in comps.

Never mind, I guess your timing is more oriented toward the WC anyway. Hope to see you making some nice perf in Denmark, Dave. Not sure if I manage to qualify to be able to come too, and to look at all of you big guys in person, but it would be great. However, seeing AIDA does not want to let me hacking their ranking database, the qualification appears suddenly much more difficult than I thought :D

Yeah, maybe I should dust off that South African passport for some more achievable records...

There were some pretty big swims in there, especially considering not many athletes have had a good build-up. We've got another comp in July that should be a good test prior to the WCs. I hope some of you Aussies plan on joining us!

Just wanted to add my huge congrats to Phil Clayton on beating his DNF record and on a decent DYN swim too! Unfortunately, it does not appear to have made it as a news item either here OR on the BFA website!

Best regards,

Alan
