Apologies to the Southafrican people

My friends,

the head of our local federal unit Baden-Württemberg, Ministerpräsident Öttinger just returned from a visit to Southafrica. I just read parts of a speech he held where he came to talk about unemployment of the "young black population" in Soweto: roughly translated he states that "The young unemployed will then loiter somewhere, get silly ideas, become criminals or get AIDS"

I offer my aplogies for this person and anything he has ever said in public. Please allow me to stress that (AFAIK) no-one I know has voted for this man to get into that office. I'm pretty glad he only plays a minor role in german politics, but since I live in the Bundesland (compare to U.S. state) he formally represents, I'd like to assure You all, that not everyone here is like that.

Nice comment Sanso. We cant always stop politicians and the whole foot in mouth issue. Its amazing what some come out with, and you sit there asking yourself how did this guy get survive his teenage years never mind be elected into power.

It's a little bit personal politics, and a little bit my hope that people will someday understand each other better. (Yes You can beat me up now for being harsh on folks recently, I'm working on it, promise)

The only Southafricans I know (well, sort of "know" ) are here on DeeperBlue and I do care about what image of my country (and its population) people here have. That's what made me post here.
The beach bar just seemed the obvious place.

What interests me in the thread is that nobody has addressed the question of whether the speaker's assertion, as roughly translated, is true or false. Will, in fact, the young unemployed then loiter somewhere, get silly ideas, become criminals or get AIDS - or not? This is what I'd have thought would immediately follow - a discussion of whether this proposition is true or false. Silly me.
