Just a quick heads up for a documentary that some of you might find interesting:

Scars of evolution: A documentary by David Attenborough about the rise of the aquatic ape theory. It's currently available via Radio 4's Listen Again service. Real Audio streams for the two programmes are linked at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/scarsofevolution.shtml

Apnea is mentioned briefly, although the reserachers are clearly behind the times: David Attenborough tells us that humans beings can hold their breath for "6, 7, even 8 minutes!" :)

Thanks a million for providing the link. I found it very interesting.

I've been looking at the evidence for the "aquatic ape" idea for a decade, and it isn't good. I also listened to the BBC Radio 4 show when it first aired and wrote up a critique on my web site. My web site on the subject has been used as a source by the Straight Dope and several college courses, BTW.
