Some of us go down there to find ourselves, others are going down for hunting and a quite a few fell in love with the ocean and the marine environment. Quite indifferent of what we do, we see what happens with the aquatic environment and perhaps are more conscious than most (compressed air) divers.
Many of us are enthusiastic about what we experience and like to tell about that to everyone in our neighbourhood and that gave me food for thought. Could we be ambassadors of the sea and try to show people that they need more respect for the sea?
I do think so. Perhaps it is an idea to gather information about what is really happening with our (local) environment, why it happens that various spots on the world different species of fishes and other marine animals disappear. And then explain that to our friends in our neighbourhood in the same enthusiastic way as most tell their freedive stories. It won’t save the world seas, but it could be a start anyway.
