are theses two really good masks?

hmmmm....
The OMER Alien is excellent! very comfortable quite low volume with good vision one of the best spearfishing/freediving masks around in my opinion.

as for the second mask i have not personally used but it doesnt look particularly good for spearfishing or freediving for a couple of reasons.

- Clear silicone BAD
- large volume tooo hard to equalize at depth and reduces feild of vision BAD

again just my opinion

in my opinion i would definetly own the alien.... hold on a minute i DO own the alien.

hi thanks for the reply, well for the second mask, the spirit 1 mask, i was planning to get the black skirt and black frame, i just couldn't post it here with that color.

well since i've taken into consideration your advice about the second mask, how about this one? Deep Blue Gear | Snorkeling Gear | Mask | Snorkels | Fins etc...

also planning to get the black skirt and black frame on this one

better, ny the sounds of things you are aiming at the lower price range in the mask market, both of the masks from the Deeper Blue store you quote on are entry level amsks madeas an OEM product out of china and you will find them in most entry level storkelling packages in many countries around the world. they are ok but do not have anyware near the build quality of the OMER or Cressi masks for example.

it is a better mask for what you need than the first option you gave however the risk of purchasing masks online without trying them on is that it willnot fit your face and leak!

if you must order online rather than venturing for advise at your local diveshop (personally alway recomend this) then you need to find a quality brand so you no what you are getting and mask that fits a wide range of faces.

for this i would look at:
- Omer range (Alien particularly)
- Cressi range (Occhio plus os Matrix)
- Oceanic (Shadow or Ion 2)

these are all good quality maks with a history of fitting wide range of faces. if you want to go cheap then fair enough but not something i would recommend

i totally get what you mean and what i've realized after replying to this post was that the website says "making snorkeling better" so it's more of a mask referred for snorkeling. anyway, i've done more research and now i think i'll be getting the omer alien and the aqualung/technisub micro mask.

thanks again for explaining everything :)

some small masks don't really measure small on your face!

do this fun experiment, in front of friends if possible:
- fill a sink or bowl with water, have an empty bowl nearby
- put mask in bowl, then your face, and put mask on. mask must be completly full of water
- remove head, empty mask into bowl, no spilling now!
- repeat 5 times
- weigh bowl, empty, weigh empty bowl. Subtract empty bowly weight and divide by 5.

Congrats: you have your masks volume in ml (one gram aprox = 1ml)

I was VERY surprised when i tried four of my masks, The one that looked the clunkiest was the smallest volume, and the one that funnily enough I had always noticed easier on deep dives.

Have fun!
