does anyone put his reel on his arm?

I'm thinking of that to increase manoeuvrability of the gun, and to reduce the risk of loosing it.
Of course, the reel has to be very easy to release (or even automatical).

Hiya

Some reels are made to be mounted on your weightbelt.

I'd stick to having the reel on the gun, as its easier to let go of your gun, should you get into trouble. Since most people like dyneema/spectra as reel line, getting entagled in that stuff is a nightmare!!

Also, how would you then rig your gun? Would you set it up as break-away, having the shooting line attached to the reel line, or would you simply attach the reel line to the gun?

I HATE not having a gun in my hand!! Makes me feel vulnerable, even though its an gun with-out a spear in it!!

If losing your gun is a very big worry, and you don't want the hassles with a normal floatline, you could possibly look at a short 6-8m floatline with a small pull-under float attached to your reel gun. Should you drop it, you'd still be able to locate your gun, assuming you're not hunting in very deep water!!

Break away.
And the reel would be put on a narrow piece of wood(or any thing else that floats); the piece of wood would stay in place on the arm with a simple flat elastic band, which wouldn't stop the reel from being pulled of my arm(just keep the set in place).
And I would be able to keep a hold on the whole set with a bit of rope.

It might seem a bit complicated; a picture would help. The aim of this is if I backed out and the line were stuck, the reel would pull of automatically; and it wouldn't sink :blackeye

The main idea is to increase manoeuvrability of the gun.
