It appears that another floating after the shot, mid-handle pneumatic speargun is appearing on the Western spearfishing market, the "ATAKA" from Samara (Russian Federation).

The gun appears to be a similar type to the mid-handle "Pelengas", but with the traditional wet barrel rather than a vacuum barrel system. Photos show the internal layout which I have added here.

Note that the line release is a retracting pin at the rear of the receiver.

I found the website while looking for something else.
The "ATAKA" speargun page: http://ataka.nazaderjke.ru/ataka-rujio.html
The "ATAKA" catalog: http://ataka.nazaderjke.ru/katalog/

Stainless steel inner barrel as is usual for better resistance to scratching in turbid water with suspended abrasive particles. Stainless steel inner barrel as is usual for better resistance to scratching in turbid water with suspended abrasive particles. The gun is of the typical Russian/Ukrainian/Belarusian form with a grip handle "saddle" type connection in that the handle can be positioned anywhere along the tank tube by the manufacturer. Italian pneumatic guns tend to use integral grips and bulkhead sections that are larger plastic moldings, such as the "Sten" clones (rear handle) and the earlier "Titan" clones (mid handle). This has the advantage of making very light floating after the shot pneumatic spearguns, but as we are seeing the floating mid-handle spearguns, which used to be virtually non-existent, are now becoming more commonplace. Note that the Mares "Titan" guns never floated after the shot as they were designed in an era where that was not a requirement, but a few later Italian guns did float after the shot, such as the Tigullio mid-handle shown below.

Now the "saddle" grip handle connection type guns are floating models due to much lighter handles (they used to be resin matrix cast handles which were heavy) and more attention is being paid to slimming down metal components such as machining away in strategic places the external surface of stainless steel inner barrel tubes in order to reduce any unnecessary wall thickness..

Gun lengths available are 50 cm, 60 cm, 70 cm and 90 cm with the handle at the rear, two thirds, mid handle or front handle. The latter handle position is for spearing in very gloomy conditions, the gun length being required for the power of the shot rather than the shooting range. Best aiming accuracy is a rear handle, best quick transverse manoeuvrability is a mid-handle, a general purpose weapon is the two thirds option and for bumping into and snap shooting a catfish of enormous size “up close and personal” in pea soup conditions, the front handle is best.

I cannot find a schematic for the "ATAKA" gun, but it is a rear hook type that holds the piston, so the usual pull rod engagement for shooting the gun applies.

Price of a 90 cm model is US$216.00, but that gun is currently on "special" sale and is now US$153.00 which seems to me a bargain. Of course shipping is an additional expense, but you would need to inquire about that.

A description from the website:-

The unique design of the gun gives it a compact size, low weight, reliability and power. Unlike most imported underwater rifles, the ATAKA-pro rifle has a barrel, piston and sear made of stainless steel, which does not corrode and is less susceptible to wear and damage. The power of the underwater rifle is achieved by a combination of the barrel, of small diameter, with a light piston, which accelerates the harpoon along the entire length of the barrel. In addition, in the ATAKA-pro underwater gun, the difference between the inner diameter of the barrel and the diameter of the harpoon is minimal - this also has a positive effect on the sharpness of the battle and on the initial speed of the harpoon.

Line release at the rear end of the gun allows you to wind a shooting line along the entire length and eliminates the possibility of withdrawing the harpoon when firing. It is possible to install a magnetic line release. The small diameter of the receiver reduces the “sail” and makes the ATAKA-pro gun maneuverable in the current. Options for choosing the location of the handle will help you choose a gun for specific hunting conditions. In the discharged state, the gun has a positive buoyancy.

Hydraulic damper piston and hydraulic damper runner titanium, provide a quiet shot. The hydraulic damper on the slider also solves the problem of ripping up the shank, and eliminates the need to install various shock absorbers and springs. The trigger is displaced towards the handle in order to eliminate the deflection of the gun at the moment of the shot.

In contrast to the budget version of the ATTACK speargun , ATAKA-pro, at the request of the client, can be made with the required long receiver and offset grip.

The set includes a gun everything you need to start a spear fishing. Having completed the shotgun with a reel and a tempered steel harpoon - you will be ready for trophy underwater hunting. Pneumatic underwater gun "ATAKA-pro" was created for underwater hunting in our Russian conditions and combines high technical and operational qualities and low price.

An even bigger bargain that I purchased recently was a "Dolphin" speargun from Alpinasub, but that is the subject for another thread. Suffice to say it is a mid-handle 70 cm and a simpler fabrication, although it uses a 3 ball sear and is similar to the Belarussian "Kayuk" in appearance, if not in the inner woks.
