Hey
Im building my own gun and im using the neptonics handle
What do you guys use to attach the floatline to the gun?
I was thinking of getting a line anchor on the butt of the gun and attaching a d shackle to it
What do your guys think?

thanks

It all depends if you hunting 20# fish or 200# Tuna. I would never trust wood screws and a line anchor on big fish. Where you live you always have the chance of a record sized fish. Many guys just drill a hole at 90 degrees to the grain through the back of the stock, then install a loop of 400# mono. You can see this style on the Riffe Gun site.

The handle if secured properly also provides a great anchor point by drilling through the lower part and putting the loop there.
Cheers, Don Paul

As Don said, if you want to attach it to the gun, the most common method is to just put a loop of mono or cable through the hole in the butt and clip to the line to it.

I prefer breakaway though. I'd prefer to have my gun in my hand out of the chain rather than then being pulled around down there by the fish.

I'm with Billl on this point, I like my hand crafted gun.:t

Na aumakua is a cool thing but I like holding my gun as well.

hey thanks for the replies
How do you keep the mechanism in place?
im using the neptonics reef mech
do i measure where to drill and just put the pins in?
thanks

use the search fearure. i know i have posted on this exact thing myself. as well have others. check it out. look at my thread " five at a time" what you need to do is make a drill template. i used a piece of "L" shaped channel. clamps and a drill press. it can be very fickle. make sure you are precise with your trigger placement. put the trigger in place exactly in place, clamp it , then drill it out. make sure you use a block clamped in place , so the bit wont blow out your piece upon exit. check the threads for pics
