Hi Mark,

Long time no hear.

Did Odilio send you the latest picture of the small fish he got on the pole spear yesterday?

Just for the record, 100# black groupers pull like a bitch on a pole spear!!!
earl

The most important part of the story is that my partner, Odilio is lethal with a pole spear. He found the fish in 10 feet of water and of course being how they are, the grouper went right into a small cave when he saw Odilio. I was lobster diving about 50 feet away when I heard him calling me. When I came over, we already knew we had the fish!

It took 2 pole spears, a knife and a gafe to get him out of the cave.

Just for reference, I am 6'0 and 200#.

earl, were are you located? i need to know so i can come over a spear a 100# black grouper. :) the amazing thing is you did that with pole spears and in only 10 feet of water. im green with envy
see ya, ryan

Earl, sounds like a plan. When I first got started as i used was a pole spear. I would love to shoot something over 10lbs with it. Do you guys tagteam those blacks? What kind of tips are on your spears? How are the hogfish down there? I would love to see more pics if you got them.
Ryan

we just use slip tips. just as an fyi, hunting for sport is very strongly discouraged in bermuda and as visitors, you are not allowed to sell you catch.

the fishing is pretty good but that is only cause of the very strong conservation efforts of both the government and spear fishermen!!!

earl, Im glad to hear Bermuda has good fish populations due to conservation. btw I would never shoot a fish for sport, I always eat what i spear. What i meant in my statement above was i enjoy the challange of shooting a fish with a more primal tool such as a pole spear.
keep up the good work,
ryan
