Incredibly, my wife has given me a pass to go on holiday to the Red Sea for a week in the first week of August. Last time we went to Hurghada in Jan 2006, my oldest daughter got quite ill so we spent a lot of time in the hotel room (well they did, I went freediving!). As such she is not keen to go again.

I would go by myself, but would prefer to have a freedive buddy along with me for safety, and also because I enjoy freediving much more when with a buddy.

I am an experienced freediver, having learned in Cayman and competed in Nice in 2000, Cyprus in 2003 and others. I'm not diving so deep anymore but still love the sea!

So, I am looking for someone to join me on a holiday to the Red Sea. I would prefer a non-smoking, non-snoring person. Also, someone who is really enthusiastic about freediving and safety would be excellent. I have been to Sharm, Dahab, and Hurghada and would recommend Sharm again. Dahab is a day trip really.

If you go to lastminute.com, you can get a pretty excellent hotel for under £600, usually all inclusive. So the most important thing is to pick a hotel with a good house reef. Then you can spend a hundred pounds on excursions, also known as dive trips. As I have done two trips to the Red Sea already, I have an idea on how to organise trips in the area with guides. All in, if you budgeted £750, you would certainly come home with lots of change and some great freediving memories and experiences.

Did I mention that the diving is awesome there?

So, if anyone is interested, please send me a private message.

Thanks.

Come on surely a freediver from somewhere in the world wants to join me!?

Check it out above.

If you are in Dahab, follow Jorg's advice. If you are in Sharm,
get in touch with Apnea Academy Egypt (write to Ricky Mura, you
can google website and email). He is located in a nice hotel (don't
remember the name), has permanent lines for freedivers, can
provide you with equipment you don't have or don't want to
carry (weights), and most likely you won't be alone.
have fun,
Andrea

Thanks I have emailed the guys in Sharm as they have a freedive safari on the week I want to go. It could work out.

I am not keen on just going down to Dahab as I spoke to Linda Pengelly who was very clear that they were not interested in just hanging out and hitting the reef. From my time in Cayman I learned that people who make thier living in the sea are not keen on just diving recreationally. The Dahab crew is really into training and going deep up and down a line. I've been there, done that and now I wish to just enjoy the sea and fish.

So come on, I know there is someone out there who would love to do a trip like this! I'm no weirdo (ok - not too weird); I just ahave a huge need to get in some clear, warm blue water soon!

i think you should get down to sharm, talk to the guys at the apnea academy and you'll find a lot of freedivers who will go diving with you...alternatively, you could go to the scuba centers, and go on the daily excursions by boat with them, you could tell them in advance that you are inersted in freediving only and not scuba, so they might ensure that you have a buddy for this activity...

Hi there

I live in Dahab and would have been up for some diving, but I'm going to be in the UK at the beginning of August for the British Championships. But keep in touch if you're ever thinking of coming another time,

Have a great holiday, wherever you go!

Hi,

seems i'm being blamed for doing my job....
in the last 3 months i spent around 80 days in the water teaching courses and training people, organizing record attempts and running and judging competitions...
do you blame me if during my days off (which are very very few) i don't feel like hanging out at the reef with somebody i don't even know?

i know for some of you guys this doesn't really sound like a job, but for me it is, and it's hard.
gbo200, whatever it's your job, would you spend your week ends doing it for free for some guy you don't know just to be nice?
somehow, i don't think so.

so, as i told you, we have 2 training weeks from the 5th to the 19th of august, and if you are interested you are welcome to join. and as i said at the phone this is all i can offer during those days.
we did and do organize freediving safaris, but unfortunately august is already full with other things.

cheers,
linda (paganelli, is how you spell my surname)

snufpunk, are you Dan?

Hey hey lil miss Perfect, Ive missed ya!

Hugs ;)

Gbo - I'd recommend the training week - it's not all about depth, sure you'll do some of that but if its anything like the one I went on you'll also get plenty of reef time, night dives, desert trips and the all important camel dive trip!

check with Linda and if that's what's on offer I'd say go for it. I really enjoyed it when I went (and yes, I did get deeper too but that wasn't the driving factor)

well, thanks for the nice words sam :)

the week you went to was more like a safari week, while the ones in august are more "diving down a line" based.
but that doesn't mean we don't do any reef diving, or funky diving, which is diving through the bells and the canyon, which we normally do with customers during one or some of the days.
for the rest of the dive sessions, most of the times happens that freedivers do their line diving first and then they go cruising around the reef, taking pictures or playing around, which obviously we don't mind at all, as long as they are paired with a buddy.

cheers
linda
