Hi guys,
does anybody know when and where the Australian Apnea Championships 2006 will take place?
Cheers Flow

Hi Flow,

There's none planned that i'm aware of. A few of us threw around the idea in 2005, however with the amount of interest generated it would have run at a severe loss. A pool comp only (ie no ocean depth diving) would have been cheaper, but still run at a loss. When I pulled some preliminary numbers together it worked out to be at least AUD$100-$200 entry fee and that was doing it on the cheap. There's only a handful of freedivers in Australia keen on competing which will always be a hinderance. But the ones that do compete are dead keen.

But that said, things do change. Check www.ozfreediving.com for updates throughout the year.

Also, there are other options. New Zealand has a couple of comps, one on 18/19 Feb and one on 25/26 March. I hear they put on a pretty mean show too.

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks for the quick reply Benny!
Bummer though that there is not enough interest ;-( Yeah well I'd be keen to at least get a pool contest happening...will see what I can do from my side....
