Pretty cool, ain't? I've watched many deep dives by Bernard Salvatori last year in Corsica. They make seem so easy... There was one fish he speared and surfaced in the same dive at 42 m! But breath-hold time never surpassed 1min50sec. And, curiously, I also noticed that they keep on finning much longer.

The rational is to increase bottom time by accelerating and adjusting the finning technique. It worked for me. With the help of a Suunto D3 computer interface I could analyse my dive profiles and realized that I spent too much time descending. Now I've basically the same breath-hold time, but with a longer bottom time, which is the time we actually hunt.

West Cornwall, Channel Islands & Pembroke, & W. Eire might be the closest it gets(?).

Awesome video. 40m down, 40m back -- more than 3 pool lengths...with that bottom time, more like 4 lengths under water! More like competitive freediving than spearing. I tried holding my breath as he went down for comparison. I made it to the bottom (1.05 -- a personal best)...sat here at the computer. So, I can't imagine climbing under a rock shelf at that point! I have yet to see a fish worth that.

Interesting how he cut loose from his line & pendulum weight at the bottom.

I've seen the same March vid as Dobs thanks to an Italian mate (Fabio) - nice video and he drops to about 40m and then starts looking around like it is 4m ! Unbelievable !
Makes it seem effortless - but got a bit bored of the fishing - seemed to be mainly grouper bashing (maybe I was too full of Italian food and wine ) - still the camera work was excellent and respect to someone who obviously dives effortlessly.

Cameraman obviously just as good a diver as the hunter
There's a Manny Puig show out there in which the cameraman is incredible: doing the same freedives plus more, plus hauling camera, plus framing shots, being smooth, and bonking sharks with the camera rofl
