I have a cressi sub competition wet suit that i have been using baby oil on to help me get into it.Now some of the glued seams on the smooth inside have started to split. Is the baby oil causing this or have i just got a friday afternoon suit. The suit doesn't go through any more hardships than any other suit so it's not miss use.The suit is only 3 months old and is washed with love after every use.Any suggestions.

my chemistry is not very good, but i think it's possible the oil could degrade the glue. try using hair conditioner instead. baby oil must make a right mess, and must be very difficult to wash off??

Not a wizz with chemistry either but I know baby oil isnt recomended with certain rubber products available in toilets and chemists because it degrades them very quickly! It cant do much for your suit :( Use the hair conditioner like Alun says 10% solution and your suit will slip on with ease :)

I like using vaseline on spots like back of the knees and around the neck it works really well. I don't think is harmfull to the suit. In Brazil in stay in the water for 8 or 9 ours it works great. Stay way from industrial vaseline just get the one at walmart or any pharmacy.

Both Vaseline and baby oil will degrade the neoprene, and act as a solvent on the glue, so should be avoided. Some sun creams also cause problems (making the neoprene go sticky) If you want extra lube on the knees and neck use silicone grease or nappy cream (although I have never felt the need with a cell interior)
If you are sensitive to hair conditioner, Subskin is very good www.subskin.it but is is a more expensive option

i agree with you.... i use shampo(inside) before wearing, vaseline to the surface to the point that produce sound, a very little, No any oil

Johnsons baby bath is excellent and does not irritate skin or damage wetsuit. Squirt some in a 1.5l plastic water bottle, fill with water and you have more than enough for getting any open cell suit on.

Im quite supprised to find that some of you find the need for extra lubrication, Im the reverse, sometimes I wish I had less! my suit can slip all over the place; are you guys particulary hairy? Just curious :)

Well thanks for all the advise i knew a thread with baby oil as the title would get alot of replies. rofl I find i need extra help as off the peg suits don't have asmuch give. The long jones are fine but around the arms on the jacket are very tight. Will struggle on till end of season then have jacket tailored.

I would be very surprised if you can find anyone to make the arms bigger at a sensible price. It would be much cheaper to get a new jacket
cheers

Shame to have to get rid of jacket after only one season. It's only arms which are tight. Why is this?? It seems to be the same with all wetsuits i've ever had. It's not as if i do weights or anything so my arms are not abnormal or anything.Does anybody offer a made to measure jacket ???

On the box of condoms it says "Do not use oil based lubricants as It deteriorates latex" So I guess it's the same for wet suits! LOL
