Band conversion for Picasso Carbontitanio

I recently purchased a Picasso Carbontitanio but soon noticed that the threaded plastic cap used to screw the wishbone to the band is very brittle and breaks easily. Rather that constantly replace this poorly engineered piece I was thinking of instead feeding a band through the hole beneath the gun's muzzle as is the case in most other guns. I just wanted to check with you guys to see if anyone with more experience toying with guns could see a reason why this might not work (the tension would be coming from about 1/2" lower on the gun, but this wouldnt seem to be a problem). Also, I was having a great deal of difficulty cocking the 19mm megaband and was wondering if anyone knew what combination of 2 smaller bands would have roughly the same resistance as the single 19mm megaband.

Hey Howzit Bruin, I have recently done a similar thing with a cressi-sub apache using 18mm bands..unfortunately I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, hopefully today or tomorrow...I'll let you know!

resistance doesnt directly relate to band power, you can get bands that are hard to pull back, yet dont offer much in the shot.

the hole @ the front of the muzzle is for a 2nd band, so you wouldnt have any problem there, i know some guys that shoot with a single loop band on a euro and dont seem to have any loss of accuracy, maybe a bit of recoil might be noticed, but i couldnt say for sure.

how are you loading the band? a lot of people find it hard to load if they are not doing it properly, how long is the gun? you will find it easier to load with some practice.

Well from my first trial run it seems to be a success. I've got a 90cm gun and it seems to be much more powerful with the 18mm bands. don't know bout the accuracy yet as I managed to forget my DIY fish target at home. Like sickbugs said its definetly a bit harder to load but dont think it'll be a problem with a wetsuit on. It's also definetly a bit noisier, so I guess the true test will come when I take it for a hunt... hopefully soon!

so right when I was about to order the parts from Picasso America I scrolled the the bottom of the site and saw they have a 310 number which meant nearby. Anyways the people at the freedive shop in Hermosa Beach are awesome, they helped me fix my band and replaced the stock line on my gun with Memospec for free, so if anyone in the LA area ever needs anything Picasso I can only give them my highest recommendation. I noticed that nobody has done a review of the carbontitanio yet so hopefully I can let you guys knowhow it treats me after a few weeks of use and abuse.

You can buy Euro adapters that will let you use Bulk rubber on your gun
I will PM you some details.

Is there a UK/European/USA supplier that sells/makes the screw-on bulk rubber adapters?

I found a UK supplier that sells screw-on Dyneema wishbones, Spearfishing,Diving, Zoggs Goggles, Natural Elite Fishers, Snorkel Battle Extreme Swimming Underwater Hockey , but the £7.50 minimum shipping makes them rather expensive.

[Why do so many spearfishing suppliers have such high minimum shipping prices?! So many times it has stopped me placing orders. www.Veals.co.uk, the big, well-established Bristol-based UK mail order angling store very wisely introduced a £3 rate for small orders, up to 1 kg -- you can get a lot for that but it's not too bad if you only need one or two small things. That's ideal.]

I am in California. I bought some Picasso threaded pieces from The Freedive Shop in Sacramento $2.50 a pair and threaded my own using Dyneema.

We did some rough calcs. a while back and reckon 2x14mm bands should have about the same power as 1x20mm band - while be a lot easier but slower to load. A supplemental chest pad (flip-flop/thong sole) will take the pain out of loading - which is often the issue more than strength.
