Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

Firstly, just to say this is a fantastic website/forum and provides a brilliant community and opportunity to share our sports fo freediving and spearfishing.

With regard to the advertising on the site - the banners at the top in particular, these have been for excellent organisations like world vision and also for the SPOT emergency messenger, etc. and that fun game "travian" .
I just wonder whether it is appropriate to consider slighly more carefully who is allowed to advertise on the site - i feel that the "be naughty" dating advert is degrading to the excellence of this site and i am dissapointed when i see it at the top of the page. :naughty

I am afraid more control won't be possible, unless DB grows to a huge organization with many employees and can afford to manage their advertisement program alone. I mean selling the advertisement space to companies directly. Until then they have to rely on 3rd parties like Google Ads, or Tribal Fusion (in case of DB). Although you usually have certain level of control - you can for example ban specific URLs or keywords, and although the systems try to serve ads relevant to the content of the page, it is an automated system, and there is no way to make it perfect. So I am afraid you will continue seeing irrelevant ads. Well, unless you decide supporting DB with the inexpensive $9.95. In that case you won't get to see any ads at all

Jonny I though you were a db subscriber? well worth the few quid it cost.

As stated in other replies the advertising you see is not truly under our control. We outsource our advertising to a third party who sell direct advertising on the site as well as "remnant" campaigns that are part of our "spare" inventory.

The non-diving ads are sold as part of that "remnant" advertising space and provides a small income to help keep the site operating (as it isn't free).

We do offer a Supporter Scheme that allows members to support the site and not see any advertising.
