Hi guys, I am new to this forum.

I am relocating to Budapest in a few weeks from Johannesburg. As Hungary is landlocked and I cannot live without spearfishing, I am looking for convenient destinations which I can go to over a weekend (not longer) and which are accessible by a short flight.

I am not necessarily looking for the best spots but what is important for me is that they are within a short drive from any of the cities listed below which are serviced by the local low cost airline. My aim is to make this a regular thing and this is why it should be conveninet so I can do it at least once a month...

The airports which are serviced by Wizz Air are:
Barcelona
Bari
Bologna
Istanbul
Naples
Palma de Mallorca
Pisa
Rome
Treviso

On that note, and in case I am lucky enough to start shooting fish regularly, is it possible to transport fresh fish by airplane from one EU member state to another?

Many thanks for your help!!!

I might be faster (or at least comparable in time) to go to the Croatian coast of the Adriatic sea by car - from Budapest to Rijeka it is 500km, so it is doable for a weekend. And it would be easier to transport fish in the car than by plane.

Thanks for the info trux, I will not have a car in the beginning so I will keep this option for later on when I get settled. I guess finding the right places will take a very long time but I have to start somewhere... Any other ideas are very welcome...
Best regards

my friend marmara sea in istanbul is outfished but yet still full of surprises from 5 meter mako to 10kg sea bass in this season. you can access the dardanelles and the famous saros bay. but you will need accompany to show you the sites. you can catch boat trips to the gokceada and the bozcaada(islands just off the coast in the aegean) which, make great hunts. see my grouper ''have you seen my grouper med. section''. that was in bozcaada. i live south of istanbul. its not too covenient for me but i do make special trips. i will try to find you contacts in the local forums. www.zipinci.com, ZIPKIN AVI (Bizi Birle?tiren Deniz)

sashmit, i have just gotten in touch with my friends who often dive at the saros bay, see it on google earth. It has many sunken shipwrecks. Deep dives as well as shallow dives. Dentex is the preferred fish and the game fish of saros. Let me know, my friends are waiting to hear from you.:)

Hey guys,

I just arrived in Budapest.

My gear is following me in a container, which should hopefully be here in late April. I need to start planning for a trip to stretch the rubbers of my guns.

yunuschiro - thanks for all the advice, I would like to stay in touch and visit the areas you suggested.

trux, I think your suggestion is the most viable for me at the moment. I found a reasonable car rental company just next to my office and if I leave on a Friday afternoon from Budapest, I can make Krk and get some hunting done on Saturday and Sunday morning, amd head back to Budapest which brings some happiness into my world for the time being. Is this part of Croatia (Krk) I mean good for hunting? Do you know any areas which I should avoid (haha - or areas that are good)?

Best regards
