I just put a second sling on my mares phantom speed- its causing the gun and spear to arch, is this a big problem?- It said in the instructions its very able of taking a second band.

its a 19mm band and a 16mm(The one I just added).

I think what it says and its performance are clear... does it state the size of the band if you are using double? try two 16mm if it still happens ask for a refund on the gun or keep it as a spare and buy one can handle a double band there are lots of options.if its arching it kinda defeats the purpose of have more speed as you aim is gonna be thrown off cheers.

My Mares 110 carbon Phantom will bend in the middle (deflect by more than 1/2") if I push on it. I purchased some spare shafts that are threaded for spearpoint. I think they are 7mm instead of 6.5. It shoots straight with dual 5/8" slings.

I think these are the ones I purchased. They are much stiffer than the 6.5 Mares shaft.

It isn't a matter of fault. It is simply overloaded. You will be setting up serious vibrations that will erode accuracy and lose performance.

If you really want that much power, go with a teak gun.

Hi Guys, I have just come back from a fortnight in Tobago spearfishing. I took a mares carbon phantom 95 along which I tweaked beforehand. I used a usa one 6.5mm shaft with shark fins and twin 16mm rubbers with dyneema wishbones(open muzzle).A spiro reel loaded with line.No bending, hardly any recoil, accurate as can be, with plenty of power. I even swithed to the original 19mm and one 16mm and it was still perfect. For £150 all told its a bargin.

I read somewhere that most gun barrels don't bend. It's typically the connection between the barrel and the handle. I checked a couple of my older guns and the connection was loose. Clamped down with a pipe clamp and that seemed to help.

Other gross cause for inaccuracy is too much band with too thin a shaft. The shaft flexes too much.

ask the manufacturer what kind of band should the speargun can take for two bands, tip of advice dont over power your gun work on your bottom time as the fish tends to get closer to you, your not shooting on a tuna or open sea are you? reef diving is more on a patience game that a power you have on your gun. accurrate gun these is what you need. dive safe

Thanks for your replies guys. The recomended band is a 19mm single or 2 16mm. The point in my post I was trying to make was the carbon 95 is much more of a gun than the cressi geronimo pro and even with the £50 worth of upgrades I installed still cheaper to buy.Its more powerfull, more accurate and quicker to move in the water and sight in than the cressi.I know this because I own a cressi as well as the beachat marlin carbon(which I hate)..If anyone is looking for a new reef gun, grab yourself a bargin in the mares.
