I wanted to create a quick post with some baseline measurements to for the community to weigh in! How can I improve the dynamic free diving discipline? I am also a competitive US Master's Swimmer (Breast stroke) so speed and technique are important for me.

US swimming allows a dolphin kick/undulation during a pullout for breast stroke. This technique was pioneered by Kitajima and is the most efficient way to power through the water during the initial "pull out" phase of breaststroke. Has this been adopted by the free diving society or has this been established as "inefficient" for longer distances

My Baseline metrics: w/ drag suit, cap, and goggles
Underwater 50 meter (long course meters) DNF time: 44.9 sec
Max breath hold out of water in bed (supine): 3:30
Underwater max distance: 75 yards, 2 flip turns swimmer fins and 2 flip turns without fins (afraid to go farther without proper assistance support).

Kind Regards,

Fellow free diver enthusiast!

Most DNF swimmers do not incorporate a dolphin kick, I doubt it be efficient at the much, much slower speeds at which top level freedivers swim in comparison to competition breaststrokers...

You can look up the times but most people doing distances beyond 100M DNF are going at a pace of slower than 1:00/50M. If you are not wearing weight you have to swim much faster to stay down.

For competitive freediving in a pool emphasis is on efficiency--very frugal use of muscle, long glides, reducing drag, getting buoyancy perfect....
