Hopfully when the storm is over you still won't be in Kansas. :)

Don, what are you going to do with your boat?

Good luck and safety to y'all folks.

By the way, has the media pointed the connection between global warming, the rising sea tempratures on the west coast of Africa and the hurricanes on the east coast of America? or are they still a decade or more behind science?
(not saying anything about the Kyoto agreement, shhh)

I guess so.
Hopefully, when this 'theory' is generally accepted in the US (government), we can go a step further and demand the teaching of evolution in all american states! ;)

I just spoke to one a employee of mine who has just had a brand new beach house completed two weeks ago on Galveston Island where there is no sea wall. He got to enjoy it with his family last week. I guess he can kiss that good bye! Thank goodness he has it insured!

what a terrible shame for your employee. i don't think it would stand much chance.

on the news today they showed a computer simulation of what scientists expect to happen to Galveston island in a C3 storm. it showed half the island was underwater! and Rita is already category 5 i believe... :(

Good luck to Sinko and other Texans, this looks like a monster one.

All major roadways are packed out of Houston and Corpus as far inland as San Antonio. All four lanes (and both shoulders) of 37 are now a giant one way street, and traffic is still packed. Apparently they ran out of gas in Houston, and all the stores and gas stations around here have been filled with people stocking up on supplies. Bottled water and "D" batteries are a rarity, and all of the hotels are booked solid.

It's kind of strange, were used to Corpus being evac'd every couple of years, but that rarely has a major effect on San Antonio (3 hours away!).

My prayers go out to Don and the rest of the STFA, hope everything works out for you guy's. If you need anything from us in San Antonio, don't hesitate to ask. Till Later...

It's gonna be a bad, bad weekend. I suppose I'll get out and ride the motorbike while I have the chance. I've got the marshmallow recharged all ready for any Dallas drenching, too. Call me a hick, but there's nothin' like being able to drive through 3 ft high water to go pick up a case of beer.

Yee-the-f%$#-haww!

In all seriousness, this is going to be a major setback for a lot of people close to me. A lot of places I call home don't seem to have a snowball's chance in Hell. I guess nature's gonna do what she does best, keep us all in check. I'm not sure what this financially inadequate diver can do, but if anyone needs my phone number, just send a PM if y'all need help with contacting family or friends.

My Dallas friends sister left Houston yesterday at 4 pm and has been driving for over 12hours and has traveled less than 80 miles. She called her brother sobbing saying that she is about to run out of gas and that most gas stations have run out of gas or have 3 hour waits for gas. A bad deal for Texas :waterworks

I bet you can! But that wasn't my intention.

Hey Richochet
Speaking of flooding, our house when I lived in Germany was at the top of a large hill. One night during a severe rain storm the furnace room had a pipe that was connected to the storm pipe somehow. That pipe gushed about 10,000 gallons of sewage directly in to our house and flooded our bottom floors of our house.

What part of Germany do you live in? I used to live in near Zweibruken in a small town named Swatzenbach. My dad was in the Airforce then and took us over seas for 3years. My sister was born there in Weisbaden at the Army base hospital.

From one hurricane victim to the next, Good Luck you guys! Hold fast and stay safe. We're already starting to feel beater bands (rain storms) due to Hurricane Rita over here in Mississippi.

Looks like no one is going to be doing any rig diving any time soon. Pity. :waterwork

Iiikk, that sounds like a really unpleasant incident.
Is that the 'Ramstein' Airbase?

I live almost at the other end of Germany 150km south-west of Berlin.
Have you been here in 2002 when this century flooding happend?
It massively hit the ara where I live (river Elbe). I've never seen something alike. A river that is usualy about 100m was then 40-60km wide. Needless to say how devestating that was in a populous country like Germany.

Thanxs for the offer Sinky !

I just got got an email saying my bros family is all otta there. I just hope the lessons learned from N.O. help to save lives from Rita.
good luck to all down there.

Ramstein was about 45 minute drive and about an hour from Kaiserslauten. Southwestern part of Germany one hour from French border

If bad really comes to worse we have a spare bedroom here in SA. If anyone needs it, or anything else just let me know.

Sinky,

If that photo is of the "Marshmallow" I think you will be OK. Those darn things are indestructible (for the most part) and they have, what? 40 gallon tanks?. You can use the time to think up new acronyms! ;)

Seriously though, my thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Ricochet, I am in Frankfurt a. M. so I saw the reports on the Oder flooding a couple of years back.....
